  • I caught my 13 year old son masturbating in his room . what should I do? He was alone in his room. I was calling him and he did not respond so I went in and saw him masturbating.

According to my OT research, you should ask your husband to discipline him as outlined in Proverbs 13:24:
    Quote
He that spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him correcteth him betimes.

    and Proverbs 22:15:
    Quote
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, and the rod of correction shall drive it away.

    and maybe most of all:

    Proverbs 23:13–14:
    Quote
13 Withhold not correction from a child: for if thou strike him with the rod, he shall not die.

14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and deliver his soul from hell.

  • Make sure you let him know it's a mortal sin that he needs to confess.  Then one can recommend things to help him break the habit.

Also reassure him that the priest will have heard this kind of thing many times before.

  • So the two anonymous women above are so lieberalised they absolutely reject the legitimacy of corporal punishments as educational tools?

And to the OP: why haven't you asked your own husband first, instead of random lieberals "traditional catholics" on the internets? What does he think about it?

Idiot.  There's obviously a place for corporal punishment, but this isn't it.  Kid will just be more traumatized.  What he needs at this point is HELP.

Parents should discipline him and take him to confession....also, have him read The Book of Gomorrah by St. Peter Damian-that will wake him up (you might want to read it first).

Listen missy, it is obvious you are in dire need of physical punishment too.

  • I saw earlier on this thread that you should tell him it is a mortal sin and urge him to go to confession. This is solid advice, but to elaborate on it more you should ask him if he knew it was sin first and if he did then that would be a time for corporal punishment. Or better yet have the father do it so your son will feel more comfortable discussing it. The key here is to not discourage your child coming to you with questions because they encourage masturbation in schools whether they be Catholic, private or public, so there is a very good chance that he did not know and especially since he is 13 because that is around the time when they start their sexual education programs.

But if you punish ignorance you'll merely alienate your child and encourage him to do it more frequently, try and remember education is the priority.

    Young lady,

    you should be ashamed.

Hidden behind an anonymous username you reveal just how vile you really are.

I feel bad for your husband (yea right) and more importantly for your father.

I have Scripture to back up my opinion, what do you have? Jewish psychobabble?

Are you currently on furlough from your mental institution?  You have in Scripture only the general principles that corporal punishment can be useful.  This does not mean that it's prudent or appropriate to use in all circumstances.  Prots also have "Scripture to back up [their] opinion".
