  • I recommend a novena to Our Lady of Loreto, who is often credited with intercession regarding homelessness. I have done so in the past with remarkable results.

    Quote
    Our Lady of Loreto,
    I implore your Holy Name,
in union with your Holy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ
and your Holy husband St. Joseph,
To help me find a home.
May I enjoy the peace and happiness
that was found in your Holy House of Loreto,
    where you lived happily,
by the grace and blessing that the Holy Father granted you.
Our Lady of Loreto, I implore you, to help me.
I promise to concentrate my future home to you.
Holy Mother of Loreto grant us health,
    peace and happiness
and help us in our lives.
Just like your house was Holy and blessed by God,
I ask that my future house be blessed
and protected by you and by God.
If you help me Holy Virgin
    and grant me my request

(State your specific request or intention here!)

I promise to make you known to all my friends.

    Say 3 Our Father...

    Say 3 Hail Mary...

    Say 3 Glory Be...
Here is the story of the Loreto house, for those who don't know it:  http://www.catholictradition.org/Mary/loreto1.htm

  • When looking for help for my dad, in another state I turned to Catholic social services, like St. Vincent de Paul mentioned here already. Have you no family? No Christian/Catholic friends? My sister and her family and my husband and I have taken in folks on occasion. I am sorry to say I live in the deep South.

  • Landlord harassing three remaining tenants by showing up at all hours with workers to make "urgent" repairs, has admitted to releasing mice into a woman's apartment...boasted about it on Facebook but has since taken it down.  He didn't try that with me because he knew I'm not afraid of them.  Guy downstairs wants to get a lawyer, inviting two of us to join him.  It's too expensive and there's virtually no chance or winning.  I've decided to leave.  Junk removal company coming Monday.  Will put only a few things in storage and move temporarily to a residence hotel.  Since he no longer supplies hot water, heat, and city has ordered removal of stove and cited him for unsafe wiring, I do not need to pay rent.  This is gentrification by tactics similar to those used by slum clearance lords in the 1970s.  Get rid of the residents by harassment, cessation of services, evict them for nonpayment of rent, all but paying a few kids to burn the building.  Please pray for me to make wise choices as to few things to save, and to find affordable housing, ie, studio or room with bath near work.  Not paying rent frees up money for moving, but want to keep out of court, just pick up and move on ASAP
Thank you to all who are praying.

  • Do you have any co-workers who might be interested in offering a room for rent? Such arrangements could be a win-win in sharing housing and transportation costs.
    Praying for you!

Unfortunately, no.  I work for a very small non-profit.  My coworkers fall into two categories---the majority late 20-40 somethings with college debt living "at home" and working here to get experience because they can't find other jobs and they can't afford to move out, plus a few employees in leadership who are well-to-do retired early from past jobs, all married, enjoying up-scale lifestyle with spouse.  I'm literally the only person who lives on the salary.  I have a car into which I've already packed smaller sized valuables.  My books, bed, and two other valuable pieces of furniture plus some clothing are all that will remain after the removal company comes on Monday.
Someone else asked if I don't have family or friends.  Yes and no.  The only close family I have are my parents in their 90s, unable to help and should not be burdened with my problems. The rest of the family is estranged because of choosing immoral lifestyles.  I have no idea where they are, or if they're even living.  As for friends, they vanished when I got booted out of SSPX, and earlier, when I converted from Protestantism in the early 2000s.
It's very difficult to start over socially in one's 40s, even harder at 60, especially when you need to work long hours to survive.  Moving out of the area is not an option right now.  I cannot live with my parents.
The only way I am coping is one step, one day, even one hour or 10 minutes at a time.  If I look at the whole picture and try to solve it, I'll end up breaking down.
Please keep me in your prayers, everyone.

  • Go to the youtube channel "cheap RV living" and watch the stories about women in situations similar to yours who chose to radically alter their lifestyle by choosing to be "house-less" as opposed to homeless.  Some of these folks are living on $500 a month.  Many have health issues, some are disabled.  They have inspiring stories.

Get serious about taking charge of your life, you are not a victim but you will have to think outside the box.  Our Lord and Blessed Mother will give you strength and wisdom to take positive action.

And do get in touch with Catholic Social Services and St. Vincent de Paul to find out what assistance they may be able to offer.  Remember... Pray to God but row away from the rocks.

Here are a few links to get you started, but he has 100+ videos about living mobile, and some special videos particularly for women.

  • To the person who posted the youtubes about living in a car:

OP is a lady in her 60's in indifferent health, both physical and emotional, who has a job to keep down. She lives in Queens New York where temperatures are low right now, apart from the safety aspect. I know I would be horrified if anybody recommended such an option to me.

OP has disposed of almost all worldly goods...found a local business that recycles, donates for moderate cost.  Feels sort of like getting wiped out by a flood, fire, tornado, then again, is a relief not to have many things. Please pray I find affordable, suitable place to relocate.
To the person who thinks I can live in my car, you no doubt mean well, but that is not doable for me.  I would do it only if it were down to a homeless shelter or my car, and I can guarantee I would not dare sleep.  Its just that I would be safer in the car because I could always drive away.  This past week with 16" snow and Temps in single digits, three people were found frozen to death in NYC, two were homeless, living in vehicles, the other was in a storage shed where he'd sought refuge.  These are just the people who made the news. It is illegal, not to mention highly unsafe for a woman to live in a car in NY.

  •    Prayed to St. Anthony and St. Joseph, to Blessed Mother for acceptance of wherever Our Lord put me.  Thank you to all who prayed!  It took six weeks, but I found suitable quarters in decent neighborhood, much closer to work, a rented room with shared kitchen, private bathroom, rent includes utilities and is less than what I was paying with utilities separate.  Have to get place set up, but am moved in, and officially out of old place.  Only one tenant remains there, has agreed to leave by end of April.  She's retiring and returning to France, her native country. Is very quiet here on Sat. night.

  • That is great news!! I've been wondering how you were getting on.

St. Anthony, St. Joseph, and Blessed Mother. You couldn't lose! Thank God! I hope you'll be very happy there.
