  • The Incorruptibles! - St. Germaine Cousin - YouTube

I've never heard of St. Germaine Cousins. That's quite an inspiring video of her life.

  • God allowed what happened for a reason.  At one point Our Lord taught that we should not look back.

See, the past doesn't actually exist now.  Only the present exists.  And your life is what it is in the present.  God gives everyone the chance to "redo" their entire life in every moment that we have that we are alive.

Unlike for the angles, God gave us the opportunity to walk through time, and your life is what it is at the moment of your death, and not any sooner.

So try to forget about the past and look forward.  Make new decisions given what you know now.
Never looked at like that way Ladislaus, thank you!

I have, and I've always been inspired by her story.  Thanks for posting, Nadir!

  • Just the other day I was thinking how differently I would live my life, made different decisions etc. if I could do it over again with hindsight.  But when something like that happens, I just offer it up, chalk it up to Divine Providence, and move on.

There are several posts on this thread with good advice such as Ladislaus' & Matthew's.

I've also heard phrases such as, "look forward, not backward" and “My past, O Lord, to Your mercy; my present, to Your love; my future to Your providence.” (attributed to Padre Pio)

For the OP:  Perhaps a good book for you to read would be  Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence: The Secret of Peace and Happiness.

  • To the OP:

Sorry you are going thru this now--I will pray for you.  I hope you can make a good Confession and speak to a priest.  Then, as others have advised, put the past behind you.  Forgive those that have hurt you in the past and forgive yourself too.

By God's grace, you have been given a gift by getting a diagnosis and now, so much makes sense to you.  Some people might suffer and NEVER get a diagnosis.

You have turned a corner and can use what you have learned to move forward.

I know it is difficult right now not to let the devil tempt you and drag you down with ''what ifs''.  Stop, take a few deeps breaths, and remember your guardian angel and pray to St Michael! I hope it will get easier for you after the first shock has worn off.

Surge, Domine, et dissipentur inimici, et eos qui oderunt te, a facie tua!
St Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle!

Does anyone ever experience odd coincidences in their life?

For example, as I was reading the words above, a song I was listening to (Rod Stewart "Reason to Believe", live version) sang those EXACT SAME WORDS.

Very bizarre, but that's happened to me many times.

The chances are astronomical, and yet -- it happened. Without trying.

  • Many temptations from the devil start with "what if..." or "if only..."

    Just remember that.

Yes, I've had that type of experience.  Including with songs as in your example.

  • I have dreams of redoing it all, and just not bothered trying to hide that I was different.
What makes you think it would not go wrong again?
Happiness is within and found in Christ and living a holy life according to your circuмstances.  Rich people with beautiful wives kill themselves.  Africa has a million smiling faces despite poverty and hardship worse than anything you have experienced.
I know people who had brains, good-looks, connections, charm and they died of drug overdoses by the time they were 25.

Yes I’ve had this happen a few times, and for some reason I only remember it happening a few times recently but not when I was younger.
For me it is a mystery right up there with deja vu, and dreams being so real I was certain I had been

  • Coincidences are easily explained.  You think they are less likely to occur than they actually are probabilistically.  You notice them and subscribe them meaning.

People are very prone to seeing things that are not there.  The human mind and human memory are plastic though people think their memories are accurate.
