  • Hmmmh! I find it hard to comprehend how he was a 'true bishop'?  :scratchchin:

Perhaps of the NO church.............! but this is a Traditional Catholic forum..! lol!

Upon the death of Bishop Feeney on September 15, 1969, Gerety succeeded him as the eighth Bishop of Portland.[5] During his tenure in Portland, he implemented what were perceived to be the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council by modernizing the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, through the removal of the high altar, cathedra, pulpit, and communion rail.[7] He also provided housing for the elderly and expanded the Diocesan Bureau of Human Relations.[7]
"It is impious to say, 'I respect every religion.' This is as much as to say: I respect the devil as much as God, vice as much as virtue, falsehood as much as truth, dishonesty as much as honesty, Hell as much as Heaven."
Fr. Michael Muller, The Church and Her Enemies

    Well said!

Why should anyone, much less a Traditional Catholic, praise some Novus Ordo bishop as a "true bishop"?

I don't care if he was consecrated validly. That would only make him a "valid bishop". But insofar as he was completely on board the Novus Ordo destruction of the Catholic Church, he was anything but a "true bishop"!

The TRUE BISHOPS are those fighting to pass on the Catholic Faith he received, which is -- by the way -- the primary and specific duty of a bishop.

You can argue about who fits that bill -- but you can't argue about what a "true bishop" is.  A true bishop is a valid bishop who is faithful to his calling.

So any bishops helping to destroy the Catholic Faith via Vatican II (or helping Traditional Catholics to become less averse to and afraid of Vatican II) is not a "true bishop". He is a false bishop, a wolf in sheep's clothing.

  • ...and the abuse of the "Anonymous" section continues, not because the OP was embarrassed to ask a question but because he was embarrassed by the potential reaction to the post or simply wanted to troll. This section should be renamed "Provocateur Playground."
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine
