  • "The striking similarity between orgasm and the heroin rush was confirmed in 2003 when Dutch scientist Gert Holstege announced in a press release relating to his research that brain scans of orgasm resembled brain scans of shooting heroin. Laboratory rats know all about this, as a famous experiment in the 1950s by James Olds and Peter Milner conclusively demonstrated.

    1.  UNDERSTANDING  BEHAVIOR  MODIFICATION

Rats go into a veritable frenzy pressing levers (in Skinner boxes) in order to give themselves powerful pleasurable sensations, even if it means depriving themselves of food and life. “Some rats,” we are told, “would self-stimulate as often as 2000 times per hour for 24 hours, to the exclusion of all other activities. They had to be unhooked from the apparatus to prevent death by self-starvation. Pressing that lever became their entire world.”"

  • Maybe you just don't like the occidental observer or maybe you think if we just don't talk about it, it will go away, I don't know, but I do know the following is true:

""...porn addiction is indeed a serious problem—in fact, an epidemic unprecedented in human history.

Pornography is no longer the relatively mild aphrodisiac it used to be in the Summer of Love, 1967, when the sɛҳuąƖ Revolution first began to take off.  With the advent of the internet and the advance in audiovisual communications, its lethality has increased exponentially. Future advances in the area of holographic images and reality drugs threaten to make porn so irresistible to future generations that ordinary sex as we know it will pale into insignificance and fail to exercise its customary charms. Autoeroticism will then reign supreme; and the zombie sex addict, dead-eyed and drooling with unquenchable lust, will inherit the earth and turn it into a vast masturbatorium.

This is one vision of the sex dystopia to come: a science fiction nightmare that has every chance of being realized. This is a world in which only the sɛҳuąƖly fit will survive as the masters, those schooled to self-discipline and impulse control. The weak-willed and degenerate will not necessarily die out. They will simply sink into the amorphous lumpenproletariat as permanent slaves..."

  • "trace the connection between operant conditioning and porn addiction.

    (1) In the 1950s, psychologists James Olds and Peter Milner made a vitally important breakthrough in behavior modification research: they introduced innovations to the Skinner box so that the lever, instead of delivering food pellets when pressed, would now deliver direct brain stimulation through electrodes planted deep in the brain. Rats would now press the lever as many as 7000 times an hour to stimulate the pleasure centers of their brains. All other activities, including eating and drinking, were neglected. Every single moment was spent in pleasurable self-stimulation.

    (2) How does this relate to porn addiction? Quite simply, the porn addict is behaving exactly like the rat in a Skinner box. His lever is masturbation, and his positive reinforcement or reward is the orgasm. His addiction is the result of self-imposed operant conditioning, i.e., he is conditioning himself without knowing it. The buildup to orgasm and the orgasm itself is accompanied by direct brain stimulation through the release of psychotropic chemicals into the bloodstream, especially dopamine, that produce precisely the same feelings of elation and euphoria in the porn addict which the rat experiences by the stimulation of the electrodes implanted in its brain.

    (3) What triggers the release of the psychotropic chemicals into the bloodstream? The exciting erotic images. So it goes like this: Erotic mind pictures —> trigger psychotropic chemicals  —> which stimulate the pleasure centers of the brain —> which in turn produces obsessive-compulsive behavior (or addiction) in an attempt to relive the pleasurable sensations  —> which finally cause neuroplastic changes in brain structure as a result of constant chemical bombardment."

In other words, we can be made slaves to our vice and internet porn seems to have been deliberated designed to accomplish just that end and it appears to be more succesful, than narcotics.  Still, when the two are combined, you get kind of a "super-drug/super-vice."

Of course, that will render you weak and thus, easily dominated, which I think is the point of our ruling regime encouraging it and discouraging opposition to it.  Of course, that is a matter of degrees, it isn't all or nothing.

Were the rats into pornography? OP must have a problem, but this is not the place to discuss it. Matthew please get  rid of this topic.
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,

Do you somehow think this is "uncatholic?"  If so, I'd like to know how, because I don't think it is.  In fact I think it is the essence of Catholicism:  to free men from the bondage of sin.

If there is any sin that is pulling more Catholic men into bondage, than internet pornography, I'd like to know what it is, because I don't think there is any other vice that is pulling more Catholic men away from the church, than internet porn.  I think it is the single most effective weapon our enemies have.  And quite frankly, I think our enemies would agree with me, in that regard.  I wonder why you don't.

  • While I believe that this is a very important topic, I am not entirely sure it should have been raised on a forum where there are no safeguards against women or children reading the material.

With that said, and cautiously optimistic that the original poster has sanctity and true spiritual growth in mind, I offer my humble opinion that cable television and the internet are the two most powerful tools at work in the world right now to corrupt and destroy the spiritual lives of Christian men.

It is clear that the same multinational corporations that control the so-called entertainment industry are behind the proliferation of filthy pornographic sites on the internet. It's clear that just as the ratings organization for films is staffed by industry veterans, those who permit or (rarely) deny the publication of internet pornography obviously also stand to benefit from its presence in the capitalist system.

A little leaven affects the whole. Recognize the products of Godless society for what they are, consider their source and remember the end that is soon to come to all those who practice such filth.

Cling to the example of men like St. Dominic or St. Francis of Assisi, who mortified their flesh rather than to give in to such sins.

Consider Our Lady. No one, absolutely NO ONE, who has a shred of decency, let alone God's rich graces in Christ, would want to behave towards a woman in such vile ways if we have such a pure and chaste Mother to follow as an example and to honor as our ideal.

Beg Our Lord for the devotion to Our Lady that the saints have had, and you will blunt the Devil's weapons.

St. Gemma Galgani, pray for us.

St. Gerard Majella, pray for us.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, triumph soon!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

I hope he gets rid of this , too.  The remedies are fasting, penance and prayer.  The lady of the house gets the password for the computer, etc.  Take it up with a good priest who has faculties to absolve sin.  No excuse-the computer can be blocked or else throw out the computer.  It's not that complicated.

It's simple-get a filter system or get rid of the machine itself if it is an occaison of mortal sin.

    I like your post.

I don't know why it would be more dangerous for women and teenagers, who must survive this culture, to learn this stuff, than to not learn it.  On the other hand, I don't know that parents should let their six year olds participate on internet forums.

I would think that women and children would be much safer if the men in their lives knew how extremely dangerous this stuff was and how it works.  I think it is unrealistic to think that the overwhelming majority of catholic men will not fall into this trap at some point in their lives and perhaps several times.

It should be noted that women and teenage girls also get drawn into this.  Anyone who thinks that sɛҳuąƖ addiction is a men's only area is mistaken.  Women may be more drawn to romance, than men are, but they can still become just as ensnared by this.  How many mothers and daughters have abandoned their families/wrecked their lives, to make this a "full time career."  Far, far too many already and it's only getting worse.

25% of pregnancies in America end in abortion, because the girls that get pregnant don't want the baby or the consequences of going through a pregnancy.  All those girls and all those strippers, prostitutes, cheating wives and "other women" come from somewhere.

Most people graduate at some point from porn to real life affairs.  Obviously the high they get from that, can be enhanced with drugs and alcohol.

  • I don't know how you "just avoid" this stuff.

Advertising in the west is full of immodestly dressed and behaving women.  The standards for what constitutes porn and what doesn't, have been pushed far to the left.  So, by traditional catholic standards a large percentage of junk mail and billboard advertisements are pornographic.  Of course, those are role models.  So, most women dress quite immodestly.

O.k., so those images, as well as real women and perhaps men, would "trigger" a response in the brain of anyone who had masturbated to pornographic images, because that response in the brain is conditioned (according to the article posted) from what may be the first time.  So in that regard, it's like crack;  you're addicted from the first "hit."

So it seems to me, the general public is being "taught" or "conditioned" to relate to each other, as objects of self-gratification, instead of as subjects of God.

  • And all of those things are all the reasons we need to shun the unGodly world and pursue holiness.

Find a faithful priest to be your Father Confessor.

Pray the Rosary and the Office daily.

Participate in corporal and spiritual works of mercy as often as possible.

Hear Mass regularly and participate with a willing and devoted heart.

Avoid the near occasions of sin.

Seize every chance you can to replace mundane and worldly endeavors with holy and pious ones.

Above all else, meditate upon the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ and see how His love for your eternal soul was so great that He would willingly undergo the brutality of wicked men and endure the Almighty Father's wrath. Jesus chose death in your place so that you might be admitted to His Friendship and presence in glory.

Do not despise His unfathomable graces for such temporal and base things.

St. Clare, holy virgin, pray for us.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, triumph soon!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus,  have mercy on us.

  • Oh, and stop the junk mail to your location. You can tell the Post Office that you only wish to receive personally-addressed mail.

Unplug the Hell-a-vision (because that's what it is) and only use the box to watch programs beneficial to your Faith and educational. Don't waste your money or life on network programming or cable garbage.

You know how to "just avoid" a mugger, rabid dog or thunderstorm,  don't you? You run like your life depends on it (it DOES) and you hide in safety until the threat passes.

I'm serious... there's a reason priests live in rectories attached to or near churches. Go knock on Father's door when necessary. No priest worth his calling would refuse you.
