Yes, there is a place for Catholic psychologists. I don't know about using drugs to alter the mind, however (psychiatry).
There is a need in-between general practitioners (doctors) and priests absolving and advising you in the confessional.
There are mental problems, obsessions (non-demonic), compulsions, and psychological issues that a psychologist is called for to help with.
Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to get a good Catholic psychologist, because how could he even practice? He'd be sued or have his license taken away (in short, "cancelled") as soon as he advised a young man or woman to treat their same-sex attractions as a sinful temptation, and something to be fought.
Just another reason the Modern World can't have many years left -- we already have completely lost a whole category of caregivers, due to modern political correctness, i.e., the progress that has been made in making certain kinds of sin acceptable. The only way out is a complete reset or chastisement. "This World", as long as it's allowed to exist, will never let that happen.
