An interesting window on the messed up modern world.
I'm a software engineer in early 30s.
Receive good performance reviews every year, have good rapport with coworkers
My dev team consists of several devs, a manager, QA, designers. Including myself, there are 6 men and 5 women.
Of the 11 people on my team, I am the only one who has children
Generally don't talk often about my kids to my team, considering they're not parents
Mention one day on slack my youngest daughter has the flu and I need to bring her to the doc.
Get some thumb ups emojis as acknowledgement, maybe a single "Get better" emoji
A few weeks go by
Coworker takes the entire day off to bring his sick cat to the vet.
Absolute torrential flood of teary eyed, heartfelt comments and wishes for his cat to get better.
This subsequently spawns an entire "everyone post photos of your cat" thread.

When any state cares more for animals then humans it is sick and cruel.
The same government allows babies to be murdered right before birth.

I have never heard of cat scratch fever; I’ll look it up; but I know about myxomatosis. Look it up when you get a spare moment. There’s a $30,000 fine for keeping cute bunnies in Queensland. They are pests.

This is a pagan mentality. It is neither sick nor cruel to cause animals pain for a reason that is necessary or useful, such as removing a cat's claws so the cat can't scratch people. Soaking a cat in gasoline and lighting it up is cruel, but not removing its claws.

Why on earth would you remove cat’s claws? Anon suggested cat scratch fever, but if you're worried about that why keep a cat? I am not against dehorning livestock when necessary for human safety.
I am also in favour of depopulation for introduced feral rabbits in Australia.

So what?
We remove the horns from all our cattle and goats. Like cutting off a finger, without anesthesia. We clip the tusks of our pigs, too. Safety for us, for them, and for the rest of our animals is number one.
