  • I want to have access to traditional priests, Sacraments, and Masses.  I don't have access because trad priests don't come around here.

I also want to try joining the US military to get accounting and bookkeeping experience to back up my accounting degree.  Accounting jobs are far out of my range, so if I can get job experience and a paycheck with the military, I can be better prepared for civilian accounting.

What's the situation as far as having access to traditional priests?

I figure that there most likely are no trad priests or trad chaplain offerings in the military abroad.

Coast Guard is my first choice, though.

If possible I also want to discern trad religious vocations if I am able to have any say in my leaves.  If I go to a monastery and live, work, and pray with the brothers while on leave, that would be ideal.

  • If you have a degree and are not yet 34 then go to the Coast Guard Officer Candidate School.  You will get better pay and accommodations as an officer.  The access to a traditional priest will not happen unless you are stationed near a traditional chapel.  Archbishop Broglio, Bishop of the Military Archdiocese has a couple of interesting videos here http://www.milarch.org/site/c.dwJXKgOUJiIaG/b.7498453/k.866/Videos_of_Archbishop_Timothy_P_Broglio.htm

  • Can't quite seem to get the link correct.  If you go to the website for the Military Archdiocese then choose the Archbishop link and select Presentations --> Videos you will be able to hear him and judge for yourself.

  • I found it.

I've heard about strange things where lay Catholic personnel do some kind of quasi-Mass where they give out Communion with ciborium and chalice and everything but don't actually say the Mass.

How likely is someone going to be able to pray 15 decades of the Rosary daily?  I assume that one could have vegetarian meals on Fridays if necessary.

  • Uh... joining the military is not a good idea for obvious reasons.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • I have little money to move to a place with a trad parish of any kind.

I have little access to jobs in my field.

I can't afford to travel around to visit far-flung monasteries and seminaries.

None of those excuses are good enough for joining the military.

I don't have a Trad parish either... doesn't mean I should join the military.

  • My last boyfriend was in the military. They make you up and move to another state every 3 years. Many times, you will have to do training on a Sunday (so there goes Mass). You probably won't be in an area that has a trad Mass. Plus, they make you train with scantily clad female cadets, you will be surrounded by lesbians and homos, and they will be giving you diversity training. The people in today's military are not the best moral caliber.

  • Ado be aware that once you join the military, you cannot leave for 4 years. So if you find out that it is not your cup of tea, you are stuck in it for that length of time.

  • Hey, if you want to sign up to fight Zionist wars for the filthy Jєωs, you might as well not even bother with the U.S. military -- just go straight to the source and enlist in the IDF.

If you already have a degree, becoming CPA-eligible or even passing the exam would be a quicker path to a good job. A basic bookkeeping position would keep you in food and shelter until you could get your license.

I'm sure you know gov't accounting is different than corporate, so you'd likely be locking in your future as a gov't employee by getting experience through the military.
