  • Does anyone have any experience with or know anything about what it is like to live in a long-term mental institution?

  • Your interior world shrinks proportionate to the environment.  You find a niche for yourself or you become a robot.  ~ Been there, done that, thanks to True Faith, won't be back.

  • They are evil places and they are guided by ideas which are opposed to the Catholic Faith.
If you go there, you could lose the Faith through their medication and psychiatry.
Finally, the people running these places have the authority to detain people against their will, even if the people entered there voluntarily.

These places should be avoided by any Catholic who wants to save their soul.

If you have any mental problems, they are possibly really spiritual problems.
There were no psychiatrists in the ages of Faith. People asked their priests for help. And they prayed to God, Our Lady, and the Saints for help.

Ask a traditional Catholic priest for advice. Avoid the anti-Catholic psychiatric profession. Stay completely away from anywhere like the places mentioned in this thread.

Simply pray, and ask a GOOD traditional Catholic priest for spiritual help with your problem.

  • Pray the Fifteen Decades of the Rosary every day.
That will help you much more than "psychiatry".
Pray the Rosary instead of being tricked by all of this anti-Catholic nonsense.

Try praying the Fifteen Decades of the Rosary each day, and you WILL get help from Our Lady.

  • I have often wondered why non-catholics pay for therapy and make fun of Catholics for going to Confession for free.

  • Pray the Chaplet of St. Dymphna, it will always help.

    Mental Institutions are not nice...

But that topic is too deep, and I lack the time to describe it.

  • The 'mental health' professions were my original career path (well, clinical research, but anyway) and I worked with the patients as a research assistant and various capacities.

They do not help anyone. It is damage control. The 'manage' the cases, they do not 'fix'. This is the primary reason I left it.

  • For those who cannot manage to say a 15 decade Rosary because the enemy is blocking you....just repeat the Holy Name of Jesus or the favorite prayer of St. Padre Pio "Jesus Mary, Jesus Mary" until your soul settles.

  • I would suggest a large percentage of patients in a mental institution are possessed or obsessed.

  • In the Middle Ages, when Catholics were distressed by anything, they did not go to mental institutions or psychiatrists.
Instead, often they would sink on their knees and pray the Rosary to Our Lady, beseeching Our Lady to help them.
A fervent, devout, attentive, and humble Rosary will gain you help from Our Lady.
This is important: do not pray the Rosary in a luke-warm and distracted way.
If you want your prayers to bring very great results, then pray well.
Pray with devotion. With fervour. With love. With attention.

Amen.  :applause: This is the one of the best things I've ever read.

I remember my first grade teacher told us when we were scared to say the name of Jesus out loud and that demons couldn't stay there. She also said if we were scared and walking somewhere to recite the 23rd Psalm.

  • I know of a Traditional Catholic Psychologist who lives in San Fransisco and has a WONDERFUL and very very insightful website in which he combines his knowledge of psychology with the Traditional Faith.

    The website is chastitysf.com.
