The priest was one who offered sacrifice for the people. You had to be a descendant of Aaron to be a priest.
To be a rabbi was to be a teacher of the Law. If you knew the scriptures you could be a rabbi. Jesus was called "Rabbi." Under the old law he could not be a priest because he was of the Tribe of Judah.
That is one of the reasons why we refer Jesus as a priest in the Order of Melchizadek because he was not deputed to be a descendant of Aaron. Our priests are referred to as priests in the Order of Melchizadek for the same reason.
thanks, tht was helpful.

that's why protestants are so wrong to go by "bible alone"

I've read the Bible both old and new, but if you do not have the historical context and etc... if you dont know what is allegorical and what is literal... well, u can get lost and even lose interest in the Bible, even start to believe it is not true, not the Word of God.. Jesus established a Church, not a book

You cannot read the Bible alone. You should read it within the context in which it was written and explained to us by the Catholic Church.
