It seems that B.Fellay will sign an agreement with an "uncoverted" Rome. He may say " We will absolutely remain as we are", but then, so will the Conciliar Church remain as it is. In reality this means that there is nothing wrong with Newchurch or it's Mass. There is no other interpretation. So why should the faithful waste time on the Latin Mass, and inconvenience themselves to attend it?. Many, with common sense, will cut their losses and run.
The possibility of the SSPX getting a prelature granted by a pope has been on the cards since Bishop Lefebvre consecrated the four bishops and got 'excommunicated' for doing that. Before that the SSPX was in a prelature with a post Vatican II Rome and to my knowledge there was no 'resistance' to this situation then, nor was there compromise.
Sadly, a return to that same position Lefebvre had no problem with, has become a threat to many. To my knowledge the SSPX stayed faithful to tradition when in a previous prelature, even though modernism was rampant all around them. Did they not attract the few traditionalists around and provide protection for them? They did for me and others I know.
Why then do some fear the current SSPX will succuмb to modernist traits this time? If they did, I too would be out of it like a flash. Knowing many priests of the SSPX I have no fear. Indeed I believe God can work in strange ways. If a Pope who wants to please everyone and be nice to all, offers a prelature under the condition of the SSPX that they will not change their ways, then why shouldn't they take it?
No, no I hear, they will be compromised and they will compromise themselves. 'Oh ye of little faith' I say. The priests I know in the SSPX will never accept any modernism. Could the SSPX not be the ones to influence some and gather some more souls under their protection? Could God not use the SSPX to do this?
So you see there are two ways of looking at this situation. Interesting, some of my good friends have already left their daily masses and other visits to the our SSPX chapels on the basis it might happen and others because it probably will happen. Meanwhile at all their missing masses etc, tradition has been upheld 100%. For the life of me I cannot understand this position. Surely the time to do that was when it actually happened, when the SSPX in a revived prelaturte did adopt modernist trends. If that happenedm we could all could have left together.
