  • Who do you think is more likely to be in heaven. Archbishop Lefebvre (who was excommunicated) or John Paul II (who was beatified)?

I am unqualified to judge, and so is everyone else.  Let's hope they're both in Heaven.
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • As a devout Traditional Catholic, it is extremely difficult to believe that JPII is currently enjoying the Beatific Vision.  Hopefully, his soul made it into Purgatory; however, given his ecuмenical proclivities, if he was fortunate enough to make it there, his soul will not be ascending into heaven any time soon.

Let us pray for his poor soul.

  • I wished this could be a poll. A cross section of what CathInfo thinks.

  • Any "more likely" question involving the afterlife is in extremely poor taste. I'm a sede, but I don't wish hell for anyone, JPII included.

  • No one wishes hell for JPII.  I am sure every single one of us prayed for his conversion daily during his Papacy and earnestly prayed for the repose of his soul upon his death.  Nevertheless, one cannot be too optimistic that JPII is currently in heaven.  He was responsible for the Assisi Meetings; World Youth Day; promotion of the Charismatic Renewal; and serious neglect of the world-wide priest scandals (ie, Fr. Marcial Maciel, LC, Cardinal Law, Cardinal Daneels, etc)

If I were God, I'd consign everyone to Hell, and for having done it, I'd have to jump into the flames myself.  I agree with the guest who said the question is one that should not be discussed.  Think of where it leads.  It doesn't please God.  Matthew, can you please remove it or stop it?

  • Much to your chagrin, Frances, Hell is a real place and souls really do go there.  In fact, have you ever heard of the "fewness of the saved"?  Narrow is the road.

Your post is just sentimental slop from a modernist soaked mindset ...

  • John Paul II, if not an outright syncretist or indifferentist, certainly gave the impression of being one.  He was always vague and his writing his gibberish.

John Paul II issued a new Code of Canon Law PERMITTING giving the Blessed Sacrament to non-Catholics.  Pre-Vatican II Catholics actually would prepare themselves spiritually with fasting and prayer, it's probably that non-Catholics think the eucharist is just symbolic and something that Catholics do so they naturally wouldn't give it much thought.  So, that's bad.

No matter where John Paul II travelled, there was an entourage of media (so he really was a "newspaper good guy") but never was their a growth in Catholicism in his wake.

John Paul II did nothing about the sex abuse scandals.

John Paull II made Card. Mahoney of LA and Card. Martini "cardinals".

John Paul II seemed to be a kind man, and that's accountable for something.  However, the devil is kind and helpful, until a soul is ensnared so that's no good.

Just about everything related to Archbishop LeFebrvre says "Catholic failthful to the Holy Church".  He's truly a "santo subito".
