  • Anyone interested in making a cross stitch lap quilt for Bishop Williamson in 2014? I can't start on anything new until after the holidays.  There seem to be more men on here, so men ask your wives, moms, daughters, Aunts, cousins. :)

    We need:

    12 cross-stitch squares

A quilter to assemble it and quilt it
Or a quilter to assemble the top and funds to hire a long arm quilter

Funds for the batting and backing.

    AIDA
    100% cotton
    White cream ivory or ecru
    12" x 12"

    Pattern Size
    No larger than 8 inches
If smaller than 4 inches add a  border

    No larger than

    112 x 112 for 14 count

    88 x 88 for 11 count

    Theme
We could pick a masculine theme
    seashells
    boats
    dogs
    lighthouses
    barns
    boats
    fish
please add a suggestion or pick one
It might be nice to try to keep a consistent color like browns/tans.

If you are new to cross stitch but would like to try, please jump in, it's a lot of fun. :) I can help you with pattern size etc just pm me or post in here.

Due date could be the end of April after Easter. No Lent internet = more time to stitch. :D

    If you are interested
    post to:

    1) help pick a theme

    2)  what you want to do

cross-stitch square (and how many if more than one)

    or

assemble and/or assemble it and quilt it.

I posted in here so posters can keep their ID anonymous if they want do. If you are anon, just ID yourself with a letter of the alphabet so I can keep it all straight. :D

  • Won't that just encourage him to be more sedentary than he already is?

  • Tiffany, that is a really great idea.
I hear that you can take a picture and make it into a quilt square.

My friend is making a vestment for Father Hewko.

May God bless you and keep you

Sedentary?  If Bp. W. is with Fr. Pfeiffer, he's anything but sedentary!  The quilt is still a good idea.  He may say it's too cute, but he'll like it, just the same.  What about a Rosary quilt?  Possibly a square for each decade?  I'd love to help, BUT, I just don't have time during the school year.  So far as quilting, I don't have the room or equipment in my tiny apartment.

Yes, photos can be computer generated onto cloth, as is, or for cross-stitch, embroidery, etc.
A special sewing machine is required.  I do things the old-fashioned way; by hand or on a treadle machine!

     :jumping2:
To whom ever thinks a lap quilt will make Bp. W. lazy, perhaps you will make him some apostolic-friendly exercise attire.  Or should His Excellency take up dancing?  Next year, we'll be sure and send him to WYD.

      :dancing-banana:
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

I can't quilt here either, same thing no space.

I've tried to use picture - to pattern software and haven't had much luck with it. Colors come out so dark and there are tons of popcorn stitches like 15 shades of light beige.  :laugh1:

For batting, backing and borders, guessing around $75 if we had to buy new.
