  • I am intrested into the role of women and the Mass. I was wondering if in a situation in which the priest has no servers,  can a lady go into the sanctuary and sit and or kneel on the side  where servers in choro are as long as she doesn't take part in actual service at the altar ie cruets. If it's not a legitimate option can someone explain to me why?

  • No pious Catholic woman would dare to even entertain the thought of entering the Sanctuary during Mass.

  • As far as I am aware, the only time a woman can be in the sanctuary during Mass is if she is the bride during a Nuptial Mass.  Perhaps also a woman religious taking her vows, but I am not certain of that.

  • Why?  Because Alycolite (sp) Altar Server is a step to the Priesthood.  Those who are to be a priest are those who are in the personhood of Jesus Christ, a Man.

  • If there's no server, a woman can make the responses and ring the bell from outside the sanctuary.

    Why not in sanctuary?

Why not look it up yourself, instead of doing such an excellent impression of a time- and energy-wasting troll?

Because the sanctuary is meant for those who have been ordained, whether to minor orders or the Sacred Priesthood.

    Women cannot ever have that.

Your question was already answered before you asked it.

You don't seem to want to hear the truth of the matter.

    Why in the Sanctuary?

The onus is on you to demonstrate the need to break with immemorial Catholic tradition and liturgical discipline, not on those who uphold that tradition.

Any woman who would want to serve in the Sanctuary during Mass (or worse, presume that she has some kind of "right" to do so) is exactly the kind who should stay furthest away. She should pray and do penance and ask God for an increase in humility.

Look at some of the women in the pews at the TLM - praying in holy, pious silence; their heads covered and their clothing suitably modest and feminine. Then look at some of the short haired, bare headed, pants wearing, haughtily mannish "Madame Lectresses" (as Fr Hesse used to call them) casually traipsing about in the Sanctuary at any given Novus Ordo parish. Which is the better example of Catholic womanhood?

Let women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted them to speak, but to be subject, as also the law saith. 1 Corinthians 14:34

  • Why would she even want to?? The thought would never cross my mind. Besides the reasons given above why would anyone want that much attention drawn to themselves?

A woman religious taking her vows is also a bride. She is becoming the Spouse of Jesus Christ. So I believe she is allowed in the Sanctuary.
Maybe somebody can confirm or correct that.

A woman who thinks she has some "right to serve" like some abominable feminist is better served in Protestantism among her own kind.
