On another thread it was suggested:  As Matthew has explained the intent, it was primarily meant for people who want to discuss sensitive and personal issues without identifying themselves. This is a legitimate and even praiseworthy goal. A look at the topics under discussion, however, shows this to be a minority of the threads there.  The other day, for example, somebody started an anonymous thread to discuss baseball, of all things.  I can't even imagine what he was thinking.

A few topics I would like to learn more about but hesitate to show my name because it might look like dwelling on one's own or boasting, Pridefulness.
    .
Having a spiritual director and what to expect from one?  Could a spiritual director be a nun or must it be a priest?
    .
The Sabbatine Privilege who is practicing it and how on holidays?

Wanting to go to Confession but do not have any sins, just faults can it be Pride to think that way.

  • I really don't see any reason for any of those topics mentioned to be anonymous.  They would not require revealing much, if any, personal information. But I am probably not a good judge of this, since my tendency is to share too much.

Expect spiritual direction given and questions answered, for your part you are expected to do what you are directed to do.
Ideally, your spiritual director should be a priest, but a nun is fine if she wants to take on the responsibility of the task - which often requires great patience on her part -  in addition to gaining great trust in you that she is not wasting her time with you.
In times past, our parents were often our primary spiritual directors so really, if a priest is not available, anyone you trust who is versed in the faith and willing to help you works, but a good priest is always best, always first choice.
Go to confession. You can and should go often, especially if you're in mortal sin, if not in mortal sin, then this is how to handle that - "Forgive me father for I have sinned, my last confession was x weeks ago. I do not have any mortal sins to confess father, but for all the sins of my past life, particularly for the sins of (here mention in brief past mortal sins, perhaps habitual sins of your past you've already confessed), I am heartly sorry, please forgive me father."

  • I prefer to discuss this anonymously and was hoping for more i.e. the Sabbatine Privilege.

Thank you all for your replies.

I used to practice it but have fallen away of late.  What do you mean "how on holidays"?

What are you doing for the Sabbatine?

  • Absolutely no meat on Wed. Fri. or Saturday and praying the 15-decade rosary each day plus a few other personal penances.

On Holidays if they fall on Saturday or Wed. can one eat meat was my question?

Well, the Sabbatine privilege involves reciting the Little Office of Our Lady every day.

Concessions were granted for those who cannot read to do the abstinence on those 3 days.

And a Confessor can commute it to anything ... but it's recommended that it not be anything less than the equivalent of a Rosary (5 decades).

On Holy Days, most fasting/abstinence rules do not apply, so I imagine it would not apply here either.  As for (secular) holidays, there's no exception.  Unless, again, you can get dispensed by your Confessor.

  • You might get more attention for your question if you start a new thread with the title "Sabbatine Privilege". The title on this thread is more likely to get responses from people who are interested in me, assuming that such people even exist.
    :)

  • No need to start a new thread here, thanks to all, Lad helped me since he seemed to know about the subject at hand as he said he practiced it in the past, perhaps he will start again.

  • Oh good. I'm glad you were able to get the answer you wanted.

    Well done, Ladislaus.
