  • What are clichés and tropes in Young Adult literature that you are tired of seeing?

My name is Avarothnia and I have long brown hair.
My eyes are ice/sky/frosty/sea/ocean/sapphire blue, except for when they are glowing golden, red, or pure black. I am very unpopular, because I’m just too weird (I read books and ride horses and am an artist and also I volunteer for pregnant orphan children in my free time).
I am poor as shit but somehow my pale skin is always flawless. I’m clumsy and awkward, but only around Johnathän who is very hot but he never notices me. Because I’m Weird™.
I have one male friend. He is such a good friend. I have known him since I came out of the womb. He braids my hair while I tell him about Johgnathahänn and his perfect face. Such a good friend. I love him, but in a brotherly way.
I have magic powers. These include super strength, laser eyes, flight, telekinesis, supreme Godlike knowledge, power over time and space and also mac n’ cheese pours from my fingertips. But I’m still average, because of my brown hair and my Depression+Anxiety+OCD+some disorder that never affects my daily life/only serves to make other characters hate and or pity me.
I have two other friends; Ben who is gαy, and my token black/asian friend who I go to for advice.
I’m not like other girls. I love male-oriented video games, sports, monster trucks, dissecting lizards, eating unhealthy foods that never affects my perfect figure, eating bugs, and fart jokes.
However, I have zero physical defects, my legs are always shaved, and when I put on a dress/curl my hair/take off my nerdy glasses/put makeup on I suddenly become so gorgeous that every man and gαy woman within 69 miles faints from falling in love. It’s embarrassing though, because I am so very plain and boring.
And now I must save the world.

  • I have no reason to deny this spoof is accurate. So why do so many people read such banal trash? Young Adult literature is a huge category these days.
