Is This Sacrilege?

  • I am a catechist teacher first year catechist students for N.O. Church on weekdays. The students are around the age of 8-10. They have not received the sacraments of the Eucharist or Penance yet.

I was wondering if it is sacrilege to use a round crackers to teach them the proper way to receive the Eucharist on the tongue.
I would have the students kneel and say the "Domine, non sum dignus, et intres sub tectum meum: sed tantum dic verbo, et sanabitur anima mea" 3x.
Then I would say the words that the priest says "Corpus Domini nostri Jesu Christi custodiat animam tuam in vitam aeternam. Amen." and place the 'host' in his/her mouth.
Is this sacrilege? I am not claiming in any way that the round cracker is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ. I would just like the students to 'practice' so when they receive first communion they know exactly what to do.

[Please do not judge the fact that I am a catechist for a N.O. Church. I do what I can to teach my students tradition, without getting "kicked out" of the program. I showed my students a video of the Mass codified by St.Pius V and explained to them how the N.O. Mass came to be in 1969, prayed the traditional Rosary with them, talked to them about mortal and venial sin, about the sins against the Holy Ghost, corporal and spiritual works of mercy, traditional Catholic prayers, 10 commandments, etc. I am trying my best.
Additionally, if you're wondering, I do not attend N.O. Mass but you still have to do evangelizing where you can.]

  • Don't you have your own people to answer questions like this?

Not to be mean, but you can't coherently straddle fences like this. You either have an ordinary, who has subordinates, their own canonists, theologians etc., or you don't.

Have the courage of your convictions (ma'am?), if you're Catholic, and your Church is Catholic, and its clergy is Catholic, then what is the Catholic way to do this?

Also, why don't you attend their(?) mass? What are you doing there?

  • It's a yes or no question. I just want to know if it's a sacrilege to practice receiving the Eucharist by using a cracker. Please do not ask about my personal life. Thank you.

It's a yes or no question, that you're not addressing to the appropriate people, or via appropriate channels.

You're just going to go by some nameless, faceless internet entity when you have a "hierarchy"?

That dog don't hunt, no matter what "side" you're on.

    VEry shady.

  • No. It is perfectly acceptable.
Did you nod, or did you shake your head when you wrote that?

    "Yes I can't."

    "No you can."

Also, why then did you include all the extraneous info in the first place? Why not just ask your question and leave it at that?

    Shady shady...

  • No need to pick a fight with OP. Maybe OP just wanted to share that additonal information to provide a backround story for OP's question.

I'm not trying to pick a fight. If you feel the need to box me in instead, go ahead. If you can't/don't/won't follow the reasoning, then 'Oh well."

Introduces information, then is bothered when people respond using the information included.

  • I was a catechist in the Novus Ordo for about three years.
    .
I never liked the idea that children had to rehearse receiving Holy Communion, but I do remember that we had a rehearsal prior to my own.
    .
The nuns used unconsecrated hosts during these rehearsals and told us repeatedly that it was not the real thing.
    .
However, in one Dominican NO parish where  children were being prepared for their First Communion and were being given Oreo cookies in their hands and offered flavored punch, I was shocked. These same children spat out the unconsecrated hosts during their final First Holy Communion rehearsal saying that it was horrible tasting, and that preferred the Oreo cookies. For several of these children, it was the last time that they visited the church, so addicted were they to those chocolate Oreo cookies.

That's horrible; the kids would spit it out just on reflex after being set up like that.

  • When I lived in Italy it was very common for the priests to hand out unconsecrated hosts to small children who asked for them. In doing this the priest would explain the difference between the unconsecrated host (a form of bread) and the Holy Communion that they would receive at mass in the future. (the body and blood of Christ)

If it was a Novus ordo "priest", it made no difference.
If he was a validly ordained Roman Catholic priest, he would immediately have described the difference between the unconsecrated host and the Most Blessed Sacrament which is The Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ.
But NO "priests" are oblivious to it since, there is no real Presence in a host "confected" by an invalidly ordained layman.

    Probably middle aged.
