On praying the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary, I realized a message there of encouragement. Haven’t we all heard someone or even ourself say, “I have prayed, but God does not hear my prayers.”
Here in the Garden of Gethsemane we see Our Lord, who is God Himself, actually praying to His Father. First point: Think about God, praying, humbling Himself to pray, this is an example to us all. So many people in the world today are too proud to even pray, yet God Himself prayed.
In his human nature He suffers anxiety knowing His time has come, yet He who is God Himself is praying so hard His sweat is as drops of blood. He is asking God the Father; Saying: “Father, if thou wilt, remove this chalice from me: but yet not my will, but thine be done.” Point 2: Does the word “chalice” represent the Mass that He just instituted?
Point 3: Was His chalice removed, as He asked? No instead… “And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in an agony, he prayed the longer. And His sweat became as drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground.”
Point 4: We too should ask for an angel to strengthen us, as we take up our daily cross, what an example to consider.
