  • Fr Peter Scott has one opinion, Archbishop Lefebvre had another (which changed throughout the years).  Fr X has another opinion, Fr Y has another.  That is the SSPX in a nutshell.  And so everyone has a different opinion on a whole range of issues (pope or no pope - Catholic or conciliar church - new ordinations rites valid or invalid - old or new fast and abstinence laws - old or new holy days of obligation - strictly 1962 missal or bits of the pre-1955 missal thrown in - "deal with Rome" good or bad), and that is why the SSPX is in such a mess.
What is your solution to the "mess" that the SSPX is in? Or the problem with so many different opinions?

  • ;)This same priory has been docuмented many times on this chapel. You may also be aware that the old pastor of All Souls received training on the Latin Mass from the priory and an eccentric "monsignor" also spent months "In choir" at this chapel. The same prior when Fr. Hewko had a Mass years ago at a neighbor's house was spying on people. The list goes on and on

The SSPX has constantly shifted back and forth into contradictory positions over the past 40 years.  It seems to be part of its nature.  There’s nothing I can do to “solve” the mess it has made for itself.  All I can say is study your catechism, study the Faith.  Don’t rely on the SSPX, nor the Resistance for that matter.  There are alternatives to avoid the cognitive dissonance inherent in both groups, but such advice is usually not welcome on an R&R forum.  ;)

Your alternative to the "mess," is, I assume, sedevacantism, is that right?
If sedevacantism is your idea of an "alternative," then it's an alternative that is also a mess.

Don’t believe everything you read online, or hear from the SSPX and Resistance, about “sedevacantism”.  Most of it is all made up stuff from decades ago that just keeps being recycled over and over again.  “Sedevacantists” are just Catholics who believe in all that the Church teaches.

O my God, I firmly believe all the truths that the Holy Catholic Church believes and teaches; I believe these truths, O Lord, because Thou, the infallible Truth, hast revealed them to her; in this faith I am resolved to live and die. Amen.

The testimony of sedevacantists on this forum is what mainly informs my judgement of them. Many have serious anger issues; some do not. Most are just contrary, and sedevacantism offers an outlet for that personality trait.

Please don’t make a judgement based on what you see on this forum, or other forums for that matter.  Forums tend to bring out the worst in people.  However, I do not believe the sedevacantists have a monopoly on “serious anger issues”, because I have witnessed the same, and other issues, in SSPX and Resistance people both on this forum and in real life.  The sedevacantists I know are quietly spoken and charitable, and love their Catholic faith.  I have met and dined with four sedevacantist priests and one bishop (on separate occasions), and I have found them to be kind, patient, knowledgeable, pious, and generous with their time.

My initial comments in this thread were not meant to be antagonistic, and I had no intention of bringing up sedevacantism… the initial poster was (rightly) upset that a novus ordo priest is being used by the SSPX at their chapel.  All I have basically said was that this is not a new practice of the SSPX, and that even Archbishop Lefebvre was content with this situation, something that I find perplexing and perhaps many on this forum would too.

I’ll leave it there.  Apologies for taking up your time and for any misunderstandings.

Perfectly said. Though I am not the person that complained. I have never had a bad experience with a sedevacantes, I have had many with die hard SSPXers.

You say I'm not to make a judgement based on what I see on this forum, and you said previously that I'm also shouldn't believe what the SSPX or Resistance has to say about it. That only leaves sede sources themselves. But sede are hardly consistent. They are all over the place in their views. And they can be really nasty.
I know that there are a few sede priests who are kind. They are few, but they do exist. I don't think that they post on this forum.
Sedevacantism is similar to Jєωιѕн supremacism. Both groups believe themselves to be superior to all others. They believe that they have some sort of right to take over any group that they associate with, due to their supposed superiority. They have serious issues not only with anger, but with pride.

Sedes aren’t a group, that’s why they are not consistent.  There is no authority leading the sedes, they are just Catholics that recognize that Frank the environmentalist isn’t the Pope.
After recognizing that Frank ain’t Pope, there are countless differences among sedes on other matters about the crisis in the Church.

  • OK, I found the information on the Novus Ordo priest’s name, he is Fr. David Phillipson, here’s a link from CI from when he was at Phoenix: https://www.cathinfo.com/sspx-resistance-news/sspx-transfer-this-summer/
    Correction:
The name of the Novus Ordo “priest” at the SSPX Chapel in Sanford, Florida is Scott Settimo and not James Phillipson.  Curiously both are Novus Ordo priests offering mass at the SSPX, and both were together at the SSPX Chapel in Phoenix Arizona at the same time. In other words they had two Novus Ordo priests in Phoenix.  Maybe that is why some parishioners left to start their own school with the Fraternity of St. Peter, after all, there is no difference between the Novus Ordo and the Fraternotu as far as the possible invalidity of orders, they may all be laymen.

  • I go to this parish, and I must say that as long as I went there, I only saw Father Phillipson gave Mass there until he was transferred to Las Vegas. I have never even heard of the other Priest. As far as the people leaving the Church to start their own school with the Society of Saint Peter, none of these families have left the Parish. In fact I see them every Sunday. They left and started a new school because they had concerns over educational issues. Now you have the real facts.
