Title: I Need Your Help
Post by: Änσnymσus on April 10, 2021, 01:50:10 PM
Hello. Firstly, I would like to apologize for any possible grammar errors that I could commit here, because I am not a native American, nor have English as my mother language.

I become baptized four months ago, and I am having some problems with my purity again . My old life was really bad  :'(. I struggle to let those sins go away, sometimes acting beastly. I was energetic, active child, and now I am a lazy, weak young guy (probably because my brain is damaged by those addictions). I really want to quit this old life, for the love of God.

So, how can I quit those beastful vices? Any suggestions?

Thanks for your attention, and don't forget to pray for me.

Remove any occasions of sin and pray a daily Rosary.

Ya just gotta rock it out, brah. Go through the grinder to remove your inclination for, and addiction to, sin(s).

Ask Christ and Mary to be with you all the way.

Ask God to put you through the flame to burn away your impurities. (Malachi 3:3), brah.

Much like the Refiner of silver burns away the impurities to make the silver pure and shine.

God is the Refiner of your soul. Welcome the pain. Your reward will be Heavenly bliss and eternal.

Rock it out, brah.

After prayer, the next thing you need to do is keep yourself busy, specially with works of mercy. Get out of your house (probably it's a this point your comfort zone). There's always charities that need volontiers and you'll forget about yourself by helping others. Overnight life changes are rare so don't dispair. You already took a big step by getting baptized. You are not alone.

Prayer and fasting.  Persevere.  Make yourself accountable.  Find a confessor and stick to him.

What someone else said: Fasting.  The reason is that it's a form of bodily mortification and a rejection of the immediate feeding of the bodily appetites. It also builds discipline, which helps to tame all forms of self-indulgence.  When linked to prayer, it is pleasing to God, and we are likely to have our prayers answered even faster.

The other thing is the rosary first thing in the morning. Get out of bed; don't lie in bed (another form of bodily self-indulgence).

Every guy I have known with a purity problem also had a sloth problem and an inclination to satisfy impulses of gluttony (not extra food but particular, sensually satisfying food). Nothing to do with weight or amount of food -- just self-indulgence by skinny guys, even.

Treat food and sleep as necessary evils for the purpose of survival and health and not enjoyment:  basic, minimal.  Every Lent the food I eat is as plain as possible, so that I will not particularly look forward to a meal but will eat to live, not live to eat.

Someone else said, and I concur: Keep busy, but not in a frenzied way because otherwise the devil might tempt you that you need to "relax" and seek out some pleasure.  Simply have a business-like attitude about the day:  Duty calls, because that's part of fighting the sloth of procrastination and fighting recreational enjoyments.  You should think of yourself as putting your body and soul in training, both.

Keep in mind the
Cross on which Jesus suffered for our sins,
His Precious Wounds
His Precious Blood
His Sacred Heart
His Holy Name
His Holy Face

Use sacramentals like
holy water
St. Benedict medal
Miraculous Medal
Brown Scapular

These will scare away the enemy.

Pray the rosary, in particular the sorrowful mysteries.
The best time to do this, is after Mass is over and people are leaving the sanctuary. Pray the sorrowful mysteries, and spend some extra time looking at the tabernacle or the crucifix.
And fast.

You must go to confession every time you commit an act of impurity. If not, you will lose God's Grace.
Every time you are committing or thinking of committing an act of impurity, remember, God can see you. God can take your life the second you are committing your sin, and you will go straight to hell. It is only by Jesus Christ jumping in front of that bullet, that you have survived to convert. Don't play games with God.

Imagine if your mother walked in and caught you in your act of impurity. It is no different, God is there watching you.

Baptism is easy. What else are you doing? Are you a Catholic? Where do you go to mass. Are you going to confession? Do you have a good Catholic confessor? Are you going to mass during the week? What Catholic spiritual books are you  reading?

Others mentioned: prayer and fasting.

Add: cold showers and exercise.

And avoid voluntary occasions of sin.  Long before actual sin happens, you should recognize situations that will tempt you and try to avoid them.
