Curry is a spice that is excreted from the pores, similar to garlic. I’m thinking of two people I’ve known who could not tolerate the odor of both. My next door neighbor absolutely hated the odor in her fourth grade classroom. It seemed to get worse when her students were present. Nearly all of her students were first generation Italian Americans. She finally realized on day that it was the children who “reeked.” Garlic to her smelled like, “something died in here.” She got through to the half-way of the semester by keeping perfume in school and putting a bit in each nostril, and avoiding close contact.
My own father actually “had a private conversation about standards of hygiene in America” with one of his technicians from India. He truly nought the man didn’t bathe or shower. In turn, the man got insulted and submitted a formal complaint against him. Three things were conspiring. A diet heavy on curry and cuмin, plus non-use of deodorant/antiperspirant. The fellow did shower every evening, but after a day of mostly physical labor, he’d be visibly sweated so that it showed on his shirts, the armpits stained. The situation was somewhat improved by peer pressure. Other men put deodorants and antiperspirants in his locker along with notes, like, “Raj, your pits stink.”
What was done? Pretty much nothing. It was a government run nuclear research laboratory with scientists, physicists from all over the world. The men just had to suck it up and keep their mouths shut.
If you, OP, are that sensitive, finding another job without any carriers of ethnic odors!
