  • If someone went to confession (who hadn't been to confession for many years) had many sins. But wanted to come back to God.
And the confession finished just about 2 minutes before the return of Jesus Christ.

    Would they be saved?

(please don't answer, we need to be always in a state of grace etc etc as we don't know when our end will be... I know that)

Before answering, I think we would need more information. How did it finish 2 minutes short? Did the person die? Was there a disruption? Did the penitent withhold sins and was too ashamed to tell? Did he forget? Did the priests cut him off two short?

  • If after Holy Confession and absolution, the penitent was still in the habit of sinning especially after many years of not receiving Holy Confession, then he still might be in danger even after receiving absolution because (1) he still has not had the time to develop custody of the senses, a prayerful spirit of recollection, and the habitual grace to reject temptation and sin; and (2) just prior to the Second Coming, there will be horrific signs in the sky and on the earth that will cause most people to despair and lose their salvation. Only a few righteous people who have persevered in faith, hope, and charity, who have persevered in prayer and fasting, and who have not fallen into sin will be saved.
    .
Deliberate venial sins can lead to mortal sins. Habitual sins can turn our souls away from the love of God. Therefore, we must strive to avoid all sins, both mortal and venial, and we must make a firm purpose not to sin again before we begin our confession.
    .
Christ warned us that at His Second Coming, few will be found who have persevered in the Holy Faith and in Charity.
    .
So, UNLESS this penitent had repented and had determined to go to confession and avoid all sins several days before having a chance to meet with the priest, AND during this time of preparation, he had read good books, the Holy Scriptures, practiced custody of the senses, avoided all sins, thoroughly examined his conscious and made a sincere effort to confess all his sins, tried to have perfect contrition for his sins, spent hours in prayer and fasting, and had made a sincere effort to avoid all temptations and near occasions of sin, then IF he did all this, which is the preferred way to prepare for Holy Confession, then he might be able to avoid all temptations, and he might be able to keep the faith even during the trying times that precede the Second Coming of Christ.
    .
One must never wait until the last minute to go to confession.
    .
Ah, yes, this was what a Traditional priest had said during a retreat on the Second Coming of Christ.

    Lord have mercy.

  • With God all things are possible.

He can save anyone who comes with true repentance.
    Lord have mercy.

  • God is the Author of life and death. Time does not ‘run out on Him’ to save souls.
He is Merciful and Just, and not one soul dies without His permission. Scraping by at the last minute should never enter our minds for even a moment, it is us who have no time
