  • I do dishes very rarely. My wife thinks it's weird when I do them, even though she appreciates it.

That being said, I'm borderline a better cook than her. She's more of a baker. I come from an Italian/German family background, and she hates spicy food/alcohol. (see the problem, there :laugh1:). I feel like over time, she'll catch on to the spice, I have confidence in that. haha.

Men who think helping out every now and then is somehow whipped or beta, are just lazy asses. You can bank on that.

  • Yes actually I do.  My husband wasn't taught by his dad and my dad had no sons, so I followed him around and learned a lot.  People need to quit with the generalizations.  God knows what he is doing when he puts two people together.
I changed the oil on my 65 Corvair ONCE.  But I was 18 years old.  Today I pay others to do--my kids!  I bought all the gear for my sons to change our oil at home, hydraulic jacks, jack stands.

The generalization is still correct. You're an extreme exception to the rule. You haven't figured that out?
There are far more men washing dishes (doing wives' duties) than women changing the oil in their cars.

Do you even know what it is like to be married?  You seem very ignorant on this topic.

  • I think there are far more men paying to have their oil changed on their car than doing it themselves. :jester:

I think it's clear that a number of posters who have posted on issues relating to married life are single and wet behind the ears.

  • My DH never changed a diaper, never bathed the babies/toddlers, never cooked dinner (unless explicitly asked to BBQ meat or chicken), never did the dishes, did no gardening other than mowing the lawn. I never expected him to.

Of course we are the older generation. Now that I have health issues, he's doing laundry, vacuмing and doing most of the grocery shopping. All without a single complaint. It's like he's turning into a saint. Thank you Lord.

  • She cooks, I do dishes. I vacuum the house, she cleans bathrooms. Take it easy.

  • Wives, do you ever change the oil and filter on your cars or help with home repairs?
Never married but I used to before I developed arthritis, depending upon where I lived. In my 20’s and 30’s, I lived on a farm in the upstairs apartment. There was a garage for that very purpose, ramps, a scooter, rags, tools, a place to dispose of the dirty oil, so yes, I bought crates of oil, filters, etc. and did it myself. I learned from watching and later helping my Dad.
I’ve done house painting, in and out, cleaned gutters, laid roofing, tore down and dismantled a chicken coop but left it to the men and boys to break up the concrete floor with sledge hammers. I did a little but it was too bone jarring for me. I didn’t make much progress, either.  Some chores are really not for the ladies. If I HAD to do it, sure, it would’ve taken a month and another month of chiropractor appointments and a month of complete bed rest!
