Is there a difference between blasphemy and using the Lord's name in vain?
Blasphemy is more vocally being "angry" at God and voicing expletives about whatever befell a person, or being angry in general and pulling God into it.Using the Lord's name in vain is in a similar "vein" but can just be in casual conversation or just inappropriately used but not necessarily meant as an angry affront towards God. If I remember correctly from Moral Theology, Blasphemy is the more serious of the 2 offences and some Monarchs punished it by branding the tongue with a red hot iron for the first offense, cutting out the tongue for the 2nd offense, and death for the 3rd offense. Using the Lord's name in vain is also serious and neither should be done if one cares about their souls.
