  • How many adults do you think are saved today. In our current post-Vatican II world counting all adults, both Catholic and non-Catholic, not counting those who die before reaching the age of reason or who die soon after reaching the age of reason and those who are insane or retarded who do not have the use of reason.
One in ten? One in a hundred? One in a thousand? One in ten thousand? etc.

  • St. Alphonsus, in his own time, and those he quotes in their own times, says about this:

“St. Remigius writes that, if children be excepted, the number of adults that are saved is few on account of the sins of the flesh. In conformity with this doctrine, it was revealed to a holy soul that as pride has filled hell with devils, so impurity fills it with men. St. Isidore assigns the reason. He says that there is no vice which so much enslaves men to the devil as impurity. Hence St. Augustine says that with regard to this sin, “the combat is common and the victory rare.” Hence it is that on account of this sin hell is filled with souls.” (Sermons for all the Sundays in the Year, Sermon 45, On Impurity)

We already know what Our Lord says in the Bible. Our Lady of Fatime also is obvious.

St. Leonard of Port Maurice (A.D. 1676-1751), speaks on the fewness of the saved: “After consulting all the theologians and making a diligent study of the matter, he [Suarez] wrote, ‘The most common sentiment which is held is that, among Christians [Catholics], there are more damned souls than predestined souls.’ Add the authority of the Greek and Latin Fathers to that of the theologians, and you will find that almost all of them say the same thing. This is the sentiment of Saint Theodore, Saint Basil, Saint Ephrem, Saint John Chrysostom. What is more, according to Baronius it was a common opinion among the Greek Fathers that this truth was expressly revealed to Saint Simeon Stylites and that after this revelation, it was to secure his salvation that he decided to live standing on top of a pillar for forty years, exposed to the weather, a model of penance and holiness for everyone. Now let us consult the Latin Fathers. You will hear Saint Gregory saying clearly, ‘Many attain to faith, but few to the heavenly kingdom.’ Saint Anselm declares, ‘There are few who are saved.’ Saint Augustine states even more clearly, ‘Therefore, few are saved in comparison to those who are damned.’ The most terrifying, however, is Saint Jerome. At the end of his life, in the presence of his disciples, he spoke these dreadful words: ‘Out of one hundred thousand people whose lives have always been bad, you will find barely one who is worthy of indulgence.’ (On The Little Number of Those Who Are Saved, by St. Leonard of Port Maurice)

Yes, I was thinking of this sermon when making this post. He mentions two private revelations that if they are true would suggest that only around one in ten-thousand adults are saved. But that was when the Church was in a better position. So today, if so many souls are damned and so few were saved, it would seem that there would be even less than that many saved. Maybe one in a hundred thousand.

Well, considering how the world is today, I would agree that this is the case, sadly.

I believe this thread below from another forum is relevant to this question, since it is reasons such as described in this thread that is the reason for why many are lost, especially today:

  • Since most are damned, it's easier to simply say "most will be damned."

Considering that it was about 100 years ago, well before V2, when the faith was strong and the Church was respected all over the world and there was a Catholic Church 'on every corner' and countless millions of Holy Masses were celebrated daily and pope Benedict XV occupied the Chair of St. Peter, the successor of Pope St. Pius X, that Our Lady of Fatima showed the three children souls falling into hell like snowflakes in a ferocious blizzard, it would seem that with the way the world is today, maybe one in a million is saved?

If one in a million is saved, then how many people today would be saved? I guess there are around ten billion people today, so if one in a million were saved, that would be around ten thousand people who are saved. So we have to strive to be one of those ten thousand.

  • With the way it is today, one in 50 million is probably closer to reality.

That would be about 7400 people currently living.

That would be about 150 people.
    Pray for me, always.

  • Our Lady at Fatima said that there are many who are lost because they have no one to pray for them. I make it one of my intentions to pray for those who are dying that God will give them a merciful judgment.

i would think this, even if i had not heard what the saints say about it. There is just so much evil committed by people who are supposed to know better.. no who DO know better.

i was thinking the other day, that there cannot possibly be anything more evil than a priest in mortal sin (unrepentant)

who knows the Word of God better than a priest who has been a priest for 30 yrs?

  • i dont know one person i can call a great Christian (self included at times..).

I only know people who claim to be.. but when they are tested, they seem to fail miserably. There seems to be an appalling, abysmal lack of charity in the Christian world..  and w/o charity, you will not make it. Charity means more than having a warm fuzzy feeling toward everyone, "including" everyone and all that happy horse manure that the liberals go on about. It means doing stuff
