How do I pay for kids college?

I understand why Ggreg gets frustrated and exaggerates a bit, throwing out words like islamic fundamentalist/terrorist and such. I'm tempted to do the same thing myself!

I think your frustration isn't with Bishop Williamson's position on this issue, I think you're grasping at straws to justify yourself and your defense of ggreg.

You have utterly failed to respond to the points being made against you, instead you simply keep repeating that nonsense about all a boy having to do is hang out in the library and study.  It's silly.

We are NOT called to wall ourselves behind ramparts like a bunch of Amish. That is a mockery of what (traditional) Catholicism entails. I should suspect you of being a subversive or a plant, Tele!

Yet you say you don't think girls should generally go to college, why not, if you think my position is so extreme?

If a public high school is wrong at 17 then a public university doesn't become right at 18.

You're taking sides with the guy who sends his children to public school, and I'm not sure it has anything to do with your real position on this or logic or anything else.

Matthew even the fields that before were "safe" for women like nursing - are no longer. They are no longer taught by chaste nuns, instead l**** liberal. If I knew a young woman that was determined to become a nurse, if I couldn't dissuade her, I'd recommend her going to one of the fundamentalist baptist schools with great reservation. At least the professors there are not l**** .

I think many trads would rather their daughters attend profligate nursing schools where their moral sensibilities and delicacy are constantly and visibly eroded, rather than get married.  Yes, absolutely.

They see nursing as a "feminine" occupation - that's the excuse.

It's sort of like throwing a drinking party but cutting out the rock music.

It makes no sense at all.

It's a kind of pharisaism, in that it's about adhering to the formalities, while abandoning the essence.

So a trad has all his extended family go to traditional mass, yet he sends his children to secular state schools.

Not all "college" is the same.  There are colleges that you dorm at and there are local commuter colleges.  There are state and private colleges.  Some majors are far less dangerous than others.

The dangers of college can be dramatically reduced or even eliminated with good planning.  Be wise as a serpent, but simple a dove.

Furthermore, the student makes the choice HIMSELF on how involved in the social scene he wishes to be.

If his parents raised him right, there should be no problem.

My point is: If the child isn't ready to deal with the world full-on, with no protection at age 18, WHEN WILL HE BE? Never?

Is Telesphorus claiming that the general population is an unnecessary occasion of sin that must be avoided?

We could definitely do good by adopting the plain practice of setting up chaperoned social activities once teens are 16 and making sure the young men have employment.

So Catholics need to work at Walmart and McDonalds because they cannot learn any skills or study for a profession.

Or maybe Catholics no longer work, and live off anyone that will support them.

But wait, a Catholic will be tempted at any job, so maybe they should never leave the house.  :smirk:
