Title: Horrid nightmare last night
Post by: Änσnymσus on August 30, 2021, 09:29:25 AM
So I had this horrible nightmare last night and I'm scared it's from God.

It was the coming of Christ ( yes I know the Catholic church don't believe in the rapture) but there was a rapture. And the government were filming the people who were left behind - to mock us.

Me and my dad were being left behind . There was a lady ( in my dream I believe it was the virgin Mary) we looked to her to help us, my dad gave her his bag and she said it was dirty and tainted and handed it back . Other people gave her their bags, when I gave her mine, she said it was dirty and gave it back.

Then I was left,. I knew instantly that I was damned

I woke up and feel shaken by this nightmare

I'm now worried I might have "the mark" as I committed mortal sins earlier this year , I have been to confession. But perhaps I have the mark

You need to learn the Catholic Faith. Buy a catechism book and read it. Read books explaining the Faith for adults, such as My Catholic Faith or any book on instruction in the Faith, preferably one written before 1900. You are extremely ignorant of what the Catholic religion teaches.

The devil is attacking you and making you excessively fearful.  Don't pay any attention to your dreams, unless they bring you closer to God.

You need to say the daily rosary and trust in Our Lady, Mother of Mercy.  Also, you should research/make the total consecration to Our Lady.  She will protect you.

See St. Ignatius' rules for discernment of spirits.

If it left you disturbed and fearful, then it's from the devil (or from your own fertile imagination / subconscious).  You've been on the forum here angsting about these same kinds of fears, so these fears have made it into your dreams.

If you're already irrevocably damned, then why would God send you a dream like this, to rub salt in the wound?

You have a very warped concept of God where you think He's always scheming to damn you somehow.  He's not.  He wants you to be saved more than you want to be saved.  You need to relax, do the best you can, and then trust in His Mercy.

I've told you in like 5 threads to let go of private revelation, you will not make progress until you stop worrying about private revelation and the End Times.

OP, dreams are wanderings of the mind. You get dreams like these because you constantly obsess over the antichrist, the mark, end times etc...

If I watch a movie or hear a story, many times the characters come to life in my dreams because I was thinking about it before I went to bed

If a holiday is coming up its usual for me to have a dream or two beforehand about that holiday because I'm preparing for it and thinking about it

On another note I remember a saint saying "Foolish is the man who is his own spiritual advisor" or something of that sort

 is right.
You need to learn the Catholic Faith.

You worried about being saved? There's only one hope for you:
A) copious amounts of Catholic doctrine to wipe out the many errors you're holding in your mind, and
B) submission to a good Traditional (traditionally formed) Catholic priest that you can trust.

If you fail to take those measures, you might INDEED be damned in the end, because the devil laughs at those who try to guide themselves by their own feelings and personal lights. You are putty in the devil's hands.

Just remember, the devil is an angelic intellect. Only the grace of God -- manifested as truth, humility, obedience, and charity -- can defeat him.

P.S. You need to stop watching Protestant movies about the "rapture", and/or cut yourself off from your many Protestant friends. They are apparently confusing you big-time, and leading you into error. If you thus place yourself in an OCCASION OF SIN -- a situation where your Faith could be damaged -- it won't be God's fault if you lose the Faith. You'll only have YOURSELF to blame.

From my evening prayers out of my missal

….Let dreams depart, and phantoms fly,
The offspring of the night……

Ignore the dreams. Also the advice of my priest: ignore dreams

Dittos to this.  Don't even acknowledge your dreams.  Many dreams, even if they startle you to awakening, are hard or impossible to remember after you've been up a few minutes.

We have kind of a ghetto traffic situation on the main drag a couple of blocks from my home, and in case anyone would ever break in, I keep a Smith and Wesson 9mm loaded with hollow points on my nightstand, with only one digit on the trigger lock to move, if I'd have to remove it in a hurry in the dark.  Last night I dreamed I was woken up by someone wandering in the house, and in my dream, when I got up, I was confronted with a very tall, skinny, bald, young light-skinned black man (think Vladimir Duthier on CBS News, he's lighter than many white people, gotta wonder about that first name), and on top of that, butt-naked!  No earthly idea where that came from.  In my dream, I did not have my sidearm, and he sheepishly begged my pardon for intruding.  Then I woke up.  That was a comical dream, though I did wake up with my heart pounding, then I realized it was just a bizarre dream and I had a good laugh about it.

Well, it could happen!  Years ago, my friends had an intoxicated man wearing only underpants break the screen on the window and enter their bedroom in the middle of the night.  Mae started praying out loud and Marc grabbed his weapon and kept it trained on him.  He ordered him out of the house and the drunk tripped and fell on the stone floor in their foyer.  He started crying, apologizing, begging forgiveness and asked for help.  They actually ended up giving him clean sweats, some flip flops, making a sandwich and coffee, praying with the fellow, who then called the police on himself to report the two burglaries he’d committed before showing up at Mae and Marc’s house.  The cops came
and took him away.  The window was replaced with glass bricks!

No, Simple, and OP, your dreams are not prophetic. Your brain strings together random bits of information which you then process in your sleep.  Upon awakening, we try and find rational meaning in them, but for the most part, there is none.  Most dreams can be safely ignored.

If a dream is disturbing, remember it can be used by Satan to tempt you to fear, unease, paranoia, doubt, etc.  None of these are fruits of the Holy Ghost, so you can say a quick prayer reaffirming your trust in God and go your way.

Six signs the devil is present:
SDFORD
(Satan Drives Ford)

Sadness
Discouragement
False reasoning
Obstacles
Regret
Disturbance

If any single one is present, he is involved. Once you recognize him then you should know what to do. (Pray the Rosary, St. Michael prayer over and over, use of sacramental, etc.)

I had been watching a report by that freakish-looking anchorman --- he is totally white except for his facial features, I've even wondered if he could be an albino (that is no reflection upon him, he didn't ask to be born looking like that) --- and watching the scene from Close Encounters of the Third Kind where the tall, skinny, lanky alien appears.  And that might have also been the night I had chicken tikka masala for supper.

Yes, dreams are just random nonsense concocted by our imagination and other parts of our physical body. They can be influenced by our health/sickness, what we ate, how tired we are, and what we learned or concerned ourselves with that day.

Let's put it this way: brush off all dreams as nonsense. If God wants you to pay heed to a dream, YOU WILL KNOW IT. He can raise His voice, as it were.

Have you read much Lives of the Saints? When a Marian apparition happens, for example, the local Bishop is *never* criticized by Our Lady for being skeptical (as he should be). In fact, Our Lady deigns to work miracles to convince him -- suggesting his skepticism is justified, as if he's doing his job. Why would Our Lord or Our Lady produce miracles to accommodate skepticism, if they didn't fully 100% approve of that skepticism?

This is excellent, and I see that it comes indirectly from St Ignatius:

There is a person in my life who exhibits all six symptoms, I talked to them tonight and told them if they didn't snap out of it, they were going to end up in a psychiatric ward.  Very depressed.  I'll see if I can find a way to share this with them, religion isn't something they're terribly fond of.

Read Matthew’s recent comment.  This combination of events and maybe spicy food could be the source of your bizarre dream.  And if so, it is neither from God nor the devil.  It doesn’t prevent the devil from using it to harass and tempt you.
Have a glass of warm milk or turkey broth before bed and sweet dreams!
Always pray before you settle into bed.  I can’t kneel, but I don’t get comfortable under the covers until I’ve prayed.  It goes a long way towards preventing disturbing dreams.
