  • Was bored and looking at Zillow. Turns out there's a lot of empty <$100k old church buildings out there. What if some local people got together, bought this church and donated it to the Society or the CMRI or resistance where they could supply the rest? There's a website called "fynderskeepers.com" that has liturgical supplies, altars included. Has anyone done this?

  • No, but I was part of a parish that bought and renovated (Catholicized) a small church from a dying-out Baptist community.

    No, not that!

Never "donate" it to the SSPX or the Resistance, or whoever.

    More like...

KEEP IT FOR THE FAITHFUL - IN THEIR NAMES!

    - and offer to put up an Independent priest who is looking for a chapel to call "home base."

  • May none of you know this, but the Immaculate Conception SSPX Church  in Post Falls was donated to them by a man who was in CMRI and them went to the SSPX.  He came back to CMRI before his death!  The SSPX wants all of the mass site churches in their name.

  • The man's name who donated the church in Post Falls to the SSPX was Richard Gilfoil.  He passed away several years ago.

  • The church in St. Catharines was bought and paid for in full by parishoners and Father Nault an independent priest.  When he died the parish invited the SSPX but.... they had to sign over the church.  They only get Mass now on Sundays and Holy Days.

A few years down the road the church needed a new roof and the parish was told they had to raise the money.  Well, they asked, where was all the money they'd been donating for the past years?  Answer, it went to pay the mortgage!!!!!!!

Apparently the SSPX mortgaged the church which had been free and clear.

Rediculous. Theres no more assurance that a layman would keep the faith than would a priest, or group of priests, operating out of supplied jurisdiction.

Where would he find a bishop to consecrate the church if he is independent? A lot of independent bishops have dubious orders.

  • Not even SSPX consecrate churches.  The district superior blesses them.
