  • As an sspxer, I agreed to be godfather to my indult friends’ daughter.

I may not have been the most diligent godfather in part because I presumed that even though they were indultarians, my goddaughter still had good catechism and went to the okd mass.

Now the parents are getting divorced.  I’m best friends with the father, but my goddaughter has sided with the mother against the father, and by association, against me.

Through this ordeal, it came out that my 17 (almost 18) year-old goddaughter has been dressing immodestly lately, going dancing with her mom at country bars, and going to the Novus Ordo when convenient for years.

I want to try and find a way to be a better godfather, but now because of this divorce situation, I don’t really have access to my goddaughter.  I’m hopeful that once she turns 18, this will create an opening for me to find a tactful approach.

Any advice on how to “get back in” with my goddaughter?  I don’t want to betray my duties.

Ps: I’m also godfather to a couple boys who’s family moved 4 hours away, and because of time and distance, that relationship has also grown faint.  What to do in a case like this?

  • You do the best you can and leave the rest to God.
As children grow, I have found years 17 through 27 are tough.

You need to pray, and pray often for her conversion, and for the conversion of her mother. And of course, for the father as well.

In time, once they convert and sanctify themselves, you do not cease praying, you continue to pray for their sanctification.
