  • I thought I saw a discussion before about the pros and cons of wearing a Rosaray.  I cannot find it now but I do have some comments.

Unlike some, when I see someone wearing a rosary I do not automatically think that they do not pray it, quite the contrary until I read the thread.  But I was starting to realize that some of those who hang it on their car probably do not have a daily devotion to it.

I also wondered why someone would wear it merely as a fashion statement.  That does seem blasphemous.

When I see baseball players, Hispanic, probably of Catholic decent, wear the Rosary, I do not assume it is just a fashion statement but rather a sign of their devotion, especially when they bless themselves as they step into the batter's box.

All that being said, my wife who sometimes wears the Rosary on the outside for the following reason.

    To witness to the faith.

That is all, she gets dirtly looks for it as she does for wearing long sleeves and a skirt to the ground no matter how hot it is.  She rejoices in being looked at disdainfully in honor of Christ and His most Holy Mother and in reparation for her many sins.   If seeing her rosary motivates one to pray a Rosary themselves when they otherwise would not have, all the better.

Oh, yes, she says at least 5 decades a day.

So I would be careful before assuming that those who wear their rosaries on the outside have bad motives or are showing off, or don't pray it.  Quite the contrary.

  • It's a gang symbol for some.  I guess it's a ward against bullets.

  • It makes a mockery of the constitution to see young prople penalized for making a profesion of faith.
They don't do this to protestants and athiests.

  • I've changed my mind on this.

I still don't wear the Rosary myself but it is perfectly acceptable - even to be encouraged.

St. Louis de Montfort willingly approved of it and even recommended it for some souls who need protection.

And the Blessed Virgin Mary actually told someone to wear it.

It's true that some people will wear it as a fashion statement or a gang symbol but let's not let that get in the way of seeing that wearing the Holy Rosary is perfectly acceptable.

  • Perhaps instead of worrying about making a fashion statement to ones fellow man - more effort should be put in garnering graces from Almighty GOD by PRAYING the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Does anyone want to have the debate on which is more important?  Wearing or Praying?  In Scripture we read:

Matthew 6 : 1 Take *heed that you do not your justice before men, to be seen by them: otherwise you shall have no reward of your Father, who is in heaven.

2 Therefore when thou dost an alms-deed, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the ѕуηαgσgυєs, and in the streets, that they may be honoured by men. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.

3 But when thou dost alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doth:

4 That thy alms may be in secret, and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will repay thee.

5 And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, who love to pray standing in the ѕуηαgσgυєs, and at the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men: Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.

6 But thou, when thou shalt pray, enter into thy chamber, and having shut the door, pray to thy Father in secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will reward thee.

What else has to be said

Don't think like that.  You're wearing and exhibiting the rosary may cause another soul to take up the rosary again and you would certainly benefit from this.
