Title: Gift for Priest
Post by: Änσnymσus on November 25, 2025, 09:24:18 AM
I'm looking for ideas for unique gifts for a priest we know well.  Something in the $500-$1000 price range.  Thanks.

I always thought a really good pair of shoes would be a good gift for a priest, but your price range could maybe buy a nice Chalice?

Cash is always the best gift for a priest.

Cash is always the best gift for a priest.
Or prayers or masses said for him.

OP here:  cash and masses/prayers are already covered.  We're looking a physical gift valued at $500-$1000.  Thanks.

Hard to advise without knowing the priest or if it's for an occasion.

Is he...
a new priest
an older priest
retiring
leaving the parish
local
from 3rd world with nothing
how long has he been a priest
does he have a hobby or special interest
does he need a laptop
does he wear his cassock till it's threadbare
does he have a special devotion (need a relic)

Priests in general are inundated with religious items.  If they have a hobby or interest even if given $$$ are often reluctant to buy themselves special items for fear the faithful will think they bought it from the collection plate.
Could we have a little more info

Depending what he already has you could get him a special embroidered fiddleback casuble with accesories:

A large statue also makes a great gift:

I don't know about prices, but a pipe with good tobacco or a nice watch could be a good idea.

Many years ago, our newly transferred priest had his bicycle destroyed in transit from overseas. He used it to keep in good physical condition and to visit some parishioners. Lots of people chipped in and bought him a good quality bicycle with panniers in the back to carry his things. We also included a gift certificate from a local bicycle shop to purchase a helmet. (That’s something that really needs to be individually fitted.)
