  • Vatican City (AFP) - Pope Francis on Monday declared that everyone has the right to be baptised, even aliens should they come knocking on the church's door.
Christians cannot "close the door" to all those who seek baptism even if they are "green men, with a long nose and big ears, like children draw," the pope said at his daily mass, according to Vatican Radio.
"If tomorrow, for example, an expedition of Martians arrives and some of them come to us... and if one of them says: 'Me, I want to be baptised!', what would happen?"

  • and if one of them says: 'Me, I want to be baptised!', what would happen?"

They would be given instruction and baptized after they made the profession of faith.

    Martians don’t exist.

But should we baptize a dog if it asks for it?

Dogs are incapable of asking for baptism on their own.

Dogs are not human. It would be a waste of time to baptize them. This thing with the Martians is purely speculative. In order for someone to ask for baptism that implies the use of reason. Animals do not have the use of reason which would which would cause them to ask for baptism. Besides they don't need baptism. Their original progenitors did not commit the original sin. They are not born with original sin. Therefore they do not need to be baptized.

  • Now all we need is for scientists to discover a new planet called Pelagia.  I predict it will be the first planetary excomunication.

Do you speculate that Martians may be born with original sin?

If they are human they would be redeemed the same way that we all are.

How could Martians (if they existed, which they do not) possibly, hypothetically be human?

All humans are descended from Adam. We are redeemed in Christs blood shed on Earth.
