I am not going to spell out the rules for when voting is enabled. That would allow trolls, manipulators, and other undesirables to more efficiently manipulate the system. I want to maintain a bit of mystery.
Here is the bottom line:
1. EVERYONE IS ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE in the upvoting and downvoting. Without exception.
2. Brand-new members are not allowed to vote right away.
3. Stay a member, contribute to the forum normally, and you WILL be able to participate in voting before long.
4. You will never be able to up/downvote a single post from "before you registered". The theory is: you shouldn't be concerned with threads that happened before your time. This is an encouragement to SIGN UP NOW, before any other posts get posted that you're dying to be able to vote on! The longer you wait to sign up for an account, the more posts you'll never be able to vote on -- even after your account "matures".
