anyone see fr morgon lately? sspx is dead in ireland... some activity in midlands, but thats it. cushy place for some priests, nothing much to do, suppose thats why they want to stay.

That's strange about Fr Morgan. He was terrific in Manila and is missed by the old-timers even today. There are many cushy places all over the world for the priests. The laypeople are fearful to say anything in case there is a backlash!

I suppose nothing should surprise us now! What a terrible state of affairs - looks like the fight has gone out of the SSPX!

  • Fr couture was always seeking to draw souls to tradition, when he was in Ireland, i wonder what he thinks of the decline of sspx there now.

This wont do! Drape him in a white cassock and pack him off to Manila where his adoring faithful await his return!

An Irish poster (Helen50) on Ignis Ardens said that Fr Couture visited Ireland recently for fundraising purposes. It seems that many of his former parishioners in that country have gone to their rest. Did you meet him? The SSPX has declined in other places as well, since the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificuм hasn't it?

Is it Fr Couture who is saying this? He flies business class only if the journey is more than 10 hours, in order to get some sleep. Otherwise, it's economy class. Years ago, the late Charles O'Connor who retired to Ireland from South Africa said that everyone at Dún Laoghaire blindly followed Couture. He quoted 150 as being the strength at St John's. (17 years ago?)

  • fr couture was very popular as superior in ireland, although he had his dislikers too. he worked hard for tradition, and was always trying to draw souls, in every part of ireland. sad to see the changes there now.

That may be true, but he's been a superior for far too long IMHO, and should be replaced. The Law of Diminishing Returns applies in his case, as far as I am concerned.

Yes, I recall in the early days of his superiorship in Asia his fans in Ireland would post him Christmas cake and pudding, and treacle and whatnot!

I say he must go, but I'm sure he wont! Like another even more (in?)famous superior that we keep hearing about ....
