  • SSPX chapel in Boston (Weston, MA) has sent this out -

"Fr. Chavarría will celebrate Mass this weekend and is also available to hear confessions in Spanish."

The regular priest is on vacation.  Is anyone familiar with this priest and his ordination status?  Many thanks.

Are there seriously any Spanish-speakers in Massachusetts? There have got to be a few somewhere in the state, but I don't think of a strong Hispanic presence when I think of Bwoaston. I think of Irish-Americans like the Kennedy family, with the Boston accent and all.

Let's put it this way: if there are Hispanics in MA, then they are *literally* everywhere.

You'd be surprised at how many Hispanics are in the northeast. They apparently make up 18%+ of the Mass. population, 17%+ Rhode Island, 17%+ Connecticut. This probably doesn't account for illegals either. And their populations are easily outgrowing whites

  • He was at our SSPX when he was a new priest - he is one of the good ones for sure. After a requiem Mass he celebrated, I told him I wanted him to do my requiem Mass when I die because it was one of the most solemnly celebrated requiem Masses I've ever been to. You have to let us know if he still pounds on the podium during the sermon. I always liked that. Yes, he was ordained in Winona, Feb. 4th, 2012.

Yes, Fr. Chavarria is validly ordained. He was at SSPX chapel in Charlotte (St. Anthony) one weekend a couple of months ago. He’s currently at St. Mary’s KS. He’s a good priest in the Confessional.

Yes, my bad, thanks for the correction. Do you know if he still pounds on the podium to stress certain points during his sermons? Just curious. For whatever reason I used to like it when he did that because the microphone so close to the podium that it came through the speakers very loud every time he did that.

I actually don't remember him doing that.  Fr. Peter Scott was famous for pounding on the podium with excitement and zeal. Fr. Chavarria has wonderful, calm, sermons mostly involving history. He seems to love history.
