  • Is is considered wrong or sneaky to belong to more than one forum, yet use a different name on both? If this is done to hopefully make it more difficult for internet loonies to track you in RL, or to keep from being denied Sacraments if you are a R supporter?

  • I suppose anonymous is anonymous...but why would you want them to be separate?

Unless you're going to be intentionally talking out of both sides of your mouth, or you intend to praise Forum A when you're on Forum A but then badmouth it when you're on Forum B -- why not use the same name?

The single handle or name is already anonymous (as you want it to be) to begin with.

I'd say it's not as sneaky as holding multiple accounts, but it's more honest to use the same name everywhere.

  • I have used different names on different forums in order to have a fresh start and not have to deal with people's prejudices about me.  I think that is a legitimate reason.

I think it is wrong or right depending on one's reason for doing it.

  • It isn't the business of another forum to know what you do on another forum, including your name.

There are whackos out there, different names protect your anonymity and privacy.

  • I say it's perfectly okay as long as you are contributing to the forum in an effective manner and, of course, not being a troll.

    Yes that's true.

If you want a new start, that's fine but only as long as you don't use your old account anymore.

  • I once joined a forum where one of the moderators had a personal grudge against me and had said he would not let me on the forum.  I joined under a different name just to show that he could not keep me out.  After doing a bunch of posts to prove my point (none of which were trolling or unpleasant in themselves) I revealed that I was there and was banned.  I did not mind because I did not think it was a very good forum.

I think that a good forum let's anyone who is prepared to follow its rules join and does not ban people based on posts they have done elsewhere.
