SSPX $ Charity
Charity to the world means giving money or time to a cause which someone considers important. That type of charity is morally indifferent, it can mean giving money to kill infants or to feed poor infants in Africa.
Yesterday, our SSPX pastor talked about charity in the Catholic sense, which is in short:
“Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” (Mat 22:37-39)
Then like every Sunday he morphed it into the subject that he raises every week, asking for money. He went on and on about giving time and money to all the projects this small parish is subjected to. This thread is to give advice to other SSPX priests so they do not make the same mistake (Our this pastor is a hopeless case, he has been using the same method of operation for decades without learning anything from his mistakes).
Here is my brief advice to other SSPX priests with eyes to see and ears to hear:
Parishioners have a set amount of money and time that they can donate to the chapel. This amount cannot be increased by asking for an endless number of causes. If someone has allotted three marbles for donations, and the priest has 3 slots, the three marbles will be placed in the 3 slots. If the priest creates 30 slots, the three marbles will go to 3 slots or be cracked into chips and the remains of the three marbles will be spread to the 30 slots. This is a fact that can’t be changed. Learn that fact and limit your causes to the reality of your situation and limit your causes to those that are important and vital.
Examples:
Do not use your parishioners charitable time to do things you could do for yourselves. If you do this, you will not have them when you really need them.
Think, before you ask for anything, think this: Am I like chicken little always saying the sky is falling and will I end up having no one listen to me when I really need them for an important cause?
Go to your parishioners homes and see how they live. We traditionalist parents live a life of sacrifice for our big families. Do not expect us to do your work for you, we do not have the time nor the inclination to help someone who does not want to take care of themselves. In the USA, men are expected to be self-sufficient, and if they are not, they are considered vagabonds by other men.
In other words; if you want to clear a field, cut down trees, and move stones in order to plant a vegetable garden, because of your own personal whims, do it yourself. A vegetable garden has nothing to do with the salvation of souls. THINK!
