  • Many Novus Ordo Churches are holding Fish Frys on Fridays in Lent - do you see this as a positive development or an encouragement to break the fast ? In some places it appears to be replacing the Stations of the Cross.

  • I won't go, none of the NOers I know fast or abstain at all, not even on Ash Wednesday or Good Friday let alone Fridays in Lent.

"To give a dime is a crime" - the NOers are just using tradition to make money, that is all.

  • Many novus ordo parishes in our  area are fasting.
They have free meatless potluck sand soups then head to Church for Stations of the Cross on Fridays with Confessions too.

Well, only an individual can fast.
So what's a free meatless potluck sand soup. Sounds very exotic. Have you a recipe? :ready-to-eat:
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • Everyone brings a meatless dish.  Some NO parishioners have potluck with meatless soup.

  • It's nothing new.  20 years ago the NO parish I attended was doing it.

Well, not the sand soup :laugh1:  , although I am sure that would be more penitential, but NO churches have long had fish/meatless meals before the Stations.

  • I went to the Fish Fry at the local NO that has the Latin Mass on Sundays.  The fish fry was fine.  Then I went to the Stations of the Cross, and they were typical NO-style stations (written in 2001).
