Even the atheist Carl Sagan understood this. Certain priests, like Fr. Joseph Pfeiffer, point to any persecution or opposition as a proof that they must be on God's side. One could rephrase Carl Sagan's quote: They opposed St. Pius X. They opposed Archbishop Lefebvre. They also opposed Charles Manson.
