  • Has anyone ever heard of a trad priest named Father Michael Weist? He is new at our independent chapel and does not exist online.

  • Never heard of him, but not existing online doesn’t mean he’s not a priest.  Some people don’t use social media.  For example, I post on CI, but not under my real name—not a good idea for a single woman who lives alone.  I don’t use Facebook, Twitter, or any of the social media sites, ever.  I’ve never used them. I have no desire to give strangers information about me, and I do not care to delve into other’s lives.  The idea of “following” someone I don’t know in person, to me is, well, “Why would anyone want to do that?”  The idea that people are “following” me, is just creepy.  I keep in touch with my friends in person, if possible, or by telephone or old-fashioned snail mail.  Most of my friends are older, 65+, and don’t use iPhones or technology.  The very few that do, we sometimes use email.  I have a tablet, that’s it. My phone is a non-internet Nokia cell phone.
Perhaps this priest values his privacy and wishes to not be constantly “connected” in order to pray and meditate?  I’ve looked myself up online and find a number of people with my name, but none of them are me!  If a prospective employer looked for me online, he’d be disappointed.

  • With a priest, however, there should be some record of him somewhere.  Ordinations are public events, and it wouldn't be a case of prying into this priest's "private life".  There are enough shady priests around that people have a right to know who ordained them at least.

  • Is he the only priest at your chapel?

Ask him when he was ordained and by whom.

If he won't answer these two things, he's not to be trusted at all and, as far as I would be concerned, he's not even a priest. If he does answer those questions, post that information here and continue to research him.

  • Is this him?

Fr. Michael has been the parochial vicar at St. Mary’s Parish since 2013. He was born on 16 July 1987, the oldest of the four children of his parents Stephen and Debbie. Fr. grew up a parishioner at St. Joan of Arc Parish, Lisle. Before entering seminary, he attended high school at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora and later studied economics, political science and French at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

Fr. Michael then entered seminary and completed his philosophical studies at St. John Vianney College seminary in St. Paul, MN. He then attended the Pontifical North American College in Rome, and received an STB and Diploma at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He was ordained a deacon at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican on 4 October 2012 by the Most Rev. John J. Meyers. Fr. Michael was ordained a priest at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, Joliet, on 18 May 2013 by the Most Rev. R. Daniel Conlon.

Fr. Michael’s first parish assignment is here at St. Mary’s. In addition to his pastoral responsibilities at the parish, Fr. is a chaplain at Central DuPage Hospital and teaches in the Diaconate formation program. Father enjoys reading, movies, the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends.

This does not appear to be either a traditional or an independent chapel.

    Or this

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/local/2006/08/05/priest-says-relief-agency-dropped-him-because-hes-gαy/5d7a023d-7639-4262-8e35-115c3ed32acf/
Well, the last name is spelled differently from the OP (though the OP could very well have inverted the i and the e, an easy mistake).
But the priest in the article is most definitely NOT a trad priest, nor would it be likely the priest in the article would leave a position as chief exective officer of Catholic Relief Services to go to an independent chapel--as if any traditional independent chapel would take him.

Thank you, but no. He has said he is 48 and he has said he is 58. He has said he had cancer at 18 and "had to drop out of (his) last year of law school." Whaaat? He is the one with the Buddhist altar in his home. He has claimed that the Buddha (with the flowers and the candles and the mirror) is a $150,000 family heirloom and that his privacy was invaded by the chapel member who took the photo.

Time to find a new priest.

  • Please post the name and city of this "traditional" chapel.  This would not be detraction as Catholics have a right to know so that this chapel and priest can be avoided.

This is Fr. Perez's chapel who now claims to be a monsignor.  Interesting that this priest doesn't appear anywhere on the parish website.
I would think it wise to stay away from this chapel.
    Find another chapel:  http://www.ecclesia.luxvera.org/Directory-USA.html#CA
