  • "Father forgive them, they know not what they do." Words spoken by Jesus.

Does that mean they saved their soul?

  • Jesus asked his Father to forgive those that are responsible for his crucifixion
from the Jєωs to the Roman Soldiers that were doing their jobs. The forgiveness
of their personal sins and if they were saved or not is an another matter.

  • Jesus was teaching us what we should do.
When he taught us His prayer he said that we should say, "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us."

Many years ago my mother was murdered by an evil man. He was captured by the police. During the interrogation he made a full confession. When the detective asked him what were your victims last words, he replied, "Jesus loves you."

I understand your point, not trying to be contrary, however, if your job is sinful and you continue with it, that is your personal sin.

The example with the Lord's prayer is a good one.

It is very sorrowful to read about your mother, that must be a very difficult memory and cross to carry.

  • The centurions job was not necessarily sinful.

This particular quote has always frightened me.

We are told that we sin when we knowingly do something wrong but these words seem to indicate that we sin and  need forgiveness for actions we were unaware were wrong.

Example.  A girl is brought up in a family totally devoid of faith and religion.  She dresses like a street walker and thinks this is normal and accepable.  She sins.

Has our teaching been wrong?  Do we truly sin in ignorance?
I believe we can and do.

The devil is called the trickster.  We wouldn't do many things if we really knew they were wrong.
"Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered: and them that hate Him flee from before His Holy Face"  Psalm 67:2[/b]

  • I think an excerpt from St. Luke's scripture (12:48) would be applicable here: "But he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. And unto whomsoever much is given, of him much shall be required: and to whom they have committed much, of him they will demand the more."
