  • Who says you need a priest?

Pablo is available to give you a hand.

This was sarcastic, of course, but to be serious, I would call the SSPX.  I imagine they have some priests who are experienced in that area.  It would be much more difficult to find an independent priest with experience.  Bishop McKenna passed away a long time ago.

Normally, of course, excorcists are supposed to have permission and authorization from their bishop for the solemn exorcisms, though every priest has the inherent power of orders to perform them.

  • I got a hold of the formerly FSSP exorcist priest, Father Ripperger, by emailing the http://auxiliumchristianorum.org/ website. I don't know if the SSPX priests do exorcisms.

Fr. Ripperger has pretty much said that he doesn't do them outside his diocese anymore.  It also depends on whether or not you believe there's any doubt regarding the validity of his ordination.

  • It also depends on your scenario.

Unless there are obvious signs of diabolical possession, it's very unlikely that a priest would do a solemn exorcism.

Any valid priest can pray some of the more general exorcism prayers, and there are also various "deliverance" prayers that even the faithful can offer; these are supposed to be most efficacious when offered by someone who has authority over the afflicted, e.g. a parent for a child.  Also, holy water and blessed salt are very effective for the less dramatic diabolical manifestations.

Well as an exorcist he would likely know who to call in your diocese. The official thing to do is to send a letter to the local chancery. Every diocese has different people, some good, some bad. If you are in a bad diocese and you really are suffering from demonic influence (I am under the impression that true possession is rare but obsession and oppression are common) I don't know what you can do other than pray and hope and try to find an independent exorcist if there are any.

  • I would definitely find a traditional priest ordained in the pre-1969 rite. Avoid the Novus Ordo.

  • There is Fr. Bernard Champagne in Connecticut  who is 87 and has performed 7 exorcisms before. I had a nearly 2 hour phone call with him yesterday and he told me he received the minor order of exorcist prior to Vatican II but was ordained by Bp. McKenna in the 80s. His phone number is (203) 795-5076.
