  • Hello, my name is William. I am new to this forum!

Since I have the liberty now, as a non-lurker (haha), to ask questions and start topics, I thought I would give it a go. I'd like to hear from you all about this question that came to mind.

What are the official status of demons? Are they condemned but allowed free reign, or are they allowed free reign, but when Christ Jesus comes back to Judge all of us, that is when they will be perpetually in hell? Note: this is not for undermining Catholic doctrine or to prove any stance.

    Thanks,

    William

    Hello William
    Welcome to the forum;

In answer to your question the status of demons is comparable to that of caged lions. They are condemned to Hell for eternity. God permits them to tempt us. God may allow them to do a bit more but they are very restricted in what they can really do. What little they can do nothing without the permission of God.

I can understand that concept well enough. I guess I did not word my question as well as I wanted to. I could branch this off into a much wider topic, but I will try my best.

Besides episodes of temptation and as a warning, why are demons and damned souls permitted to leave hell, when it is a perpetual judgement upon them to stay there? Also, why is it that we hear that hell is created for the judgement of the fallen angels, but they are doing the torturing? I do not recall any account (whether it be divine revelation, etc.) mentioning, besides the fact that it was created for demons, that demons are actually tormented in hell. Is their torment not based on torture, but rather the thought that they are forever separated from the goodness of God? What would give the demons precedence over the damned souls to torture? Thirdly, do demons and damned souls "bi-locate" up to earth, still being tortured in hell but tempting and warning on earth?

  • Welcome William,
I do not believe that damned souls get out of hell. It has been acknowledged that some souls in Purgatory have been able to communicate to some people, but that has been for the purpose of urging prayers and Masses for their release.
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

I don't say this to be pedantic, but the expression is free rein. Reign is what the King does.

    Rein is
    1. A long narrow leather strap attached to each end of the bit of a bridle and used by a rider or driver to control a horse or other animal. Often used in the plural.

    2. A means of restraint, check, or guidance.

    3. A means or an instrument by which power is exercised.

Replace the word animal with devil and you get the picture. Maybe that helps you to understand better that the devils are under God's restraint and power.

Why the devils are permited to temporarily leave Hell is known only to God. Hell was made for the devils because they rejected God. It was not made for us but we can go there if we reject God and his commandments.
