At my chapel we have a Low Mass so after Mass we always pray the Leonine prayers. But I don't feel comfortable praying them so I remain silent. Why? Because usually I have just received Holy Communion and I don't want to open my mouth or speak for fear that I may spit particles of Jesus out of my mouth and onto the floor. So If I do not receive Communion I say the prayers with everybody else but if I do receive I remain silent. Does anyone else have this problem?
-
I believe you are being sinfully scrupulous. When do you first talk after receiving Communion? Do you really believe that extra time is changing anything?
Consider how much talking the priest has to do immediately after receiving Communion. If this is a problem, the Church would never have allowed the priest to open his mouth until well after Mass was over.

So you think it is a sin even though it is done out of reverence for the Blessed Sacrament? Do you think it is a mortal sin or a venial sin?

That is probably the all time worst reason I ever heard of for not saying the Leonine prayers.

So after I spit Our Lord all over the floor should I step on him and blaspheme also? I was expecting to be called scrupulous but I thought that others would at least understand my reasoning.

I believe a sufficient amount of time has passed from the reception of Communion to the prayers after Mass that would allow you to recite the prayers after Mass without blaspheming the Blessed Sacrament.
Keep calm and pray on, my friend.

How much time passes from the time you receive Our Lord, to the end of Mass and the start of the prayers?
Why is the Host still in your mouth after all that time?

Sit near the front. That way you will receive Holy Communion ahead of the crowd and will have more time for the host to desolve. This way you will have four to eleven minutes between Holy Communion and the beginning of the Leonine prayers.

I just wanted to make it clear that I do not think it is a sin to speak after receiving the Blessed Sacrament. Myself not speaking is just a personal devotion of mine that I started doing out of respect for the Blessed Sacrament. I started this thread to see what others think of this and also to see if anyone else did this also.

I'm curious what your priest told you in the confessional.
He would probably tell you to swallow sooner.

When I go to the TLM they say the Leonine prayers after the low mass. I think that if you feel uncomfortable in saying the prayers vocally that is ok. You should pray them mentally and God would be pleased.

Yes, we say the Leonine prayers after our Low Masses, and no, I'm never fearful of spitting out particles, because the few minutes left between HC and the end of Mass -- after Last Gospel and all -- is sufficient time for the host to have dissolved. Whatever remaining particles would be left, if any, would be very tiny and actually difficult to spit out. It would take significant effort to do so.
All of which tells me that you should bring your scrupulosity to the Confessional or to Spiritual Direction.
-
My communion is almost always gone before I get back to my pew, otherwise it is dissolved (never chewed) and swallowed in under 30 seconds after receiving - unless perhaps the host is unusually large, in which case it may take an additional 5 or 10 seconds.
We were taught to do this as children in case we cough or sneeze we do not need to worry.

Which is it? is it a personal devotion or are you afraid you may spit particles out?
When you receive communion, the host should be dissolved in your mouth and into your stomach in well under a minute - any longer than that and you are doing not receiving Our Lord properly some how or something is physically wrong - do you have dry mouth all the time which prevents the host from dissolving or something?

It is a personal devotion I started a while ago becasue I did not want to spit out particles of the Blessed Sacrament.

Poche is right!
If the OP has some unusual condition that causes something easily dissolved to still remain in his mouth after several minutes, than the next best thing is to keep his mouth shut and say the prayers internally. A form of mental prayer.

I have been thinking about this a lot and I am still undecided as to what I should do in the future. I believe I have a good reason for not speaking after Holy Communion even to pray, the desire not to cause particles of Our Lord to fall on the floor. But I am also considering the idea that it could be wrong for me not to do what everyone else is doing even though I believe I have a good reason. I mean the Church is aware that it is possible for particles of the Host to fall on the floor if people speak after receiving, yet she still allows for speaking soon after communion so who am I to think otherwise. So it may be that even though I believe I have a good reason to not speak it still may be better for me to just do what everyone else is doing and speak.
-
I think it is best for you to simply never talk again and take a vow of permanent silence, that way there is simply no chance of spitting out the particles of the host.
This has to be the most ridiculous post I have ever seen anywhere, you are definitely being sinfully scrupulous as it was pointed out. We are Catholics not pharisees...
How old are you, certainly not older than 16 or else you logic and reasoning could not be so addled.
