If someone wanted to become officially an SSPXer, do they just attend the chapels and call themselves one or do they register/join/etc.?

Registering in an SSPX chapel and making weekly offertory contributions, with Chapel envelopes would qualify you as a "supporter".

To be a member you'd have to become a cleric (2nd year seminarian).

A layman could join the 3rd Order, which might qualify as being a "member" of the SSPX. That's about as close as a layman is going to get.

I guess I poorly phrased my question.

What about a family? Do they just register? To belong to a specific chapel?

You can register but you still won't be a member. The nearest for a layman to be a member would be to become a 3rd order member.

Maybe the person asking means "parishioner". Does that term apply for sspx?

I've been attending SSPX Masses for about 12 years, and I've never had to register.

You don't join the Dominicans by attending their churches.
