This is just false.  Most Traditional Catholic men love dancing more than any professional dancer.  The Traditional Catholic girls look so lovely with their dresses swirling in the wind as their partners twirl around them.  It's like a musical from the 1930's.

  • 'Listen to St. Augustine and you will see if dancing is a good action. He tells us that "dancing is the ruin of souls, a reversal of all decency, a shameful spectacle, a public profession of crime." St. Ephraim calls it "the ruin of good morals and the nourishment of vice." St. John Chrysostom: "A school of public unchastity." Tertullian: "The temple of Venus, the consistory of shamelessness, and the citadel of all the depravities." "Here is a girl who dances," says St. Ambrose, "but she is the daughter of an adulteress because a Christian woman would teach her daughter modesty, a proper sense of shame, and not dancing!"'

    St. Jean Marie Baptiste Vianney

Well the Catholic Church has never condemned dancing.

Here is a another example of what happens when one has the protestant mentality of reading the saints writings literally without putting them in the proper context.

  • I guess some dances are okay, but most dances I have seen are sinful.

He is reading the saints correctly and not out of context. You just disagree with the saints and don't want to admit it so you say they were read out of context.

  • What's the point of dancing?

What do people do that they go there to be entertained by it?

    Ask yourself that question honestly.

    ...

They go to look at other people show off. That is why people dance. The other people show off their bodies, their physical skill, their clothes and outfits, and they join in taking liberties looking, touching, and regarding the mind and desires.

People who haven't given up impurity and desire outside of marriage regard dancing as appealing for exactly the wrong interior reasons.

  • Yes, because early 19th century France is basically equivalent to 21st century America.

    ???

There is a wide variety of dances out there today, from chaste folk dances to hip-hop, bump-n-grind ghetto galas.

It's very difficult to try to find a description that covers them all.

    What are we, Quakers?

"Nothing is better for thee than me."

Yes, but we all have a Sunday Obligation to attend Mass, and so we must.

Oh, wait a minute...you were talking about dancing. Oops.
