  • I am seeing conflicting information on this for both sides. On one hand there are those who say he did sign some docuмents and use this as support for resisting the Pope. On the other hand there are those who say he did not sign any docuмents any use this as support for sedevacante. 

    Has anyone here done serious in-depth research into this topic? I am trying to see more nuances about different positions.

  • I think that even the serious researches are divided on this question.  I believe that he did sign something, including an excommunication of St. Athanasius, but I believe the issue was whether he had done so under duress ... since he rescinded the excommunication very shortly after having issued it.  I don't think we'll ever really know ... well, not until we die.
