  • According to this thread: http://catholicforum.fisheaters.com/index.php/topic,3452136.msg33767560.html#new

I saw warning signs a while ago. He seemed to be almost playacting a Trad Catholic. A strong whiff of insincerity in the way he would express Catholic truths, almost like he was playing a character. No anger or passion, like a comedian telling one liners. I also noticed he actually preferred to interact with the least rigorist Catholics over there, and was friendly but cool towards those members you would think he would engage the most and feel the most drawn towards. Plus, he seemed to have a dislike of this forum. I used to find it strange that he preferred Fisheaters to Cathinfo. When I first became aware of him I thought he chose that forum over Cathinfo because he saw himself as a missionary converting the natives. He never mentioned why he preferred it over there to here. He must know that this forum is a more accurate expression of anti-modernism than Fisheaters, which is a fantasy-land and is quasi-Protestant. To go from being a Fisheater to a Protestant is actually not much of a leap. An admitted Anglo-Phile, he recently he added a quote from the Zionist-friendly Theodore Dalrymple to his signature.

  • That's too bad. I used to read a bit on that forum, until it finally became intolerable. I never would've suspected that he would become a prot. It's especially astonishing considering that he was raised in Portugal. The Portuguese have suffered from Jews & Masons, but prots have always been unknown there. I wonder how it happened. May God have mercy on his soul that he would recant, abjure his heresy & do penance before he dies.

  • Indeed, Fisheaters has become a den of iniquity. Whenever someone asks me for some good traditional Catholic websites, I mention Fisheaters, but I warn them: STAY AWAY from the forum, stick to the main site. Generally, telling them about the apostasy of the forum owners (and that's basically what it is, an apostasy; they have rejected the immemorial teaching of the Church by divorcing their lawful spouses and getting 'married' civilly) is enough to convince them to stay clear of it.

  • Just to add some more to my original post, since I've learned more:

My comment at the end shouldn't lead people to think he's become a Zionist! He has humanist tendencies, and that's what he responds to in Dalyrymple's writings. He's not become an ally of the Jews by any means.

I think Vetus's situation is that he sees very deeply the problems in the Church, but at the same time he's a worldly guy who likes to play Metallica songs. He would give up the world for an unmistakable sign from God that the Church is true and that it exists, even if it's a small remnant. I detect in him an alienation towards sedevacantism because of the bitterness and divison among Catholics who hold to that position.

"What do you want to say to me, Philip? That the infallible Roman Church is reduced to a few bishops in North America that don't even work with one another? That's it?"

But as Matatics has said there's far more bitterness and division among SSPX and Novus Ordo types than in sedevacantist circles. I think his logic takes him in the direction of sedevacantism, but it appears too messy to him to be worth embracing. It's not enough to inspire faith in him. The witness of sedevacantists does not impress him. So instead of embracing the sedevacantist position he chooses to renounce the Church entirely and embrace a kind of spare spirituality free from dogma.

At least that's what appears to be going on.

  • From out of left field; I thought he was one of the better ones over there but perhaps not. I do remember him making a comment on FE that I read via the http://rencesvals.blogspot.com/2011/11/catholic-priests-and-religious-are.html where he indirectly called priests and religious "social parasites." While corrupt priests and religious are social parasites, to say it the way Vetus Ordo did struck me as off as well as anti-clerical.

Unfortunately, its this kind of schizophrenic behavior, attitudes, outlook, and tastes that lead to a loss of faith, and yet the Fisheaters forum tells people that these kinds of things are fine and harmless. At least I can admire that Vetus is honest with himself unlike some of the other Fisheaters. You are also correct OP, that going from your average Fisheater to a High-Church Protestant is not really much of a difference. Both groups tend to over-emphasize the smells and bells elements which are there primarily to fit their personal tastes, while taking a nonchalant attitude towards certain sins and errors.

    Pray for me, always.

Truths are self examined and arrived at through Spiritual Means - doing the will of GOD instead of ones own will. Anyone who isnt catechised properly and who does not practise their Faith can Fall , just as a Heretic or Pagan or Infidel  who in earnest seeks the TRUTH and when found holds fast to it and becomes a Saint.

  • I actually prefer to read the Catholic Answers forum over Fisheaters.

The Catholic Answers guys are so openly heretical (I think unintentionally) that they are very very funny!
