  • If anyone thinks I'm exaggerating in talking about people having a covert contempt for religiousity, just look at the Novus Ordo.

You have the structure of the "official Church" - the conciliar Church, that is very much opposed to  Catholic Tradition.  There is an implicit contempt for the Faith in that, and those who've experienced it know it.  The condescension, the disingenuousness, the hostility that manifests itself in subtle and not so subtle forms of persecution.

That same mentality has clearly infected the neo-SSPX.  Of course they have to be a lot more careful about how far they go in expressing their contempt: but the bottom line is that the people serious about following Archbishop Lefebvre are on thin ice.  They are treated with contempt.

Those who have this mentality think they are wise in the ways of the world.  There is a part of their minds that categorizes the devout as being simple-minded.

Now religion cannot easily survive when such people are making the decisions.

If the authorities show contempt for the believers, ordinary people are very likely to be scandalized.

That's what happened in the NO, and that's what's happening in the SSPX.

And in any family where the religion and its moral code is not regarded seriously and with true veneration.

  • And it comes out like venom when living the Christian life means not selling our family's soul to the world, especially if those decisions mean not fitting in to their economic standards or whatever the Jonses value.  We will do our Christian thing and you do your Christian thing as long as you keep your priorities and don't fall into the social misfit category. Who would have thought persecution would come from the pews.

  • The SSPX is doing just fine in upholding Catholic Tradition.

No need to press any panic buttons.

  • I have been frequently accused of "religiousity" by fallen away Catholics.  I just had to redouble my efforts to convert them.

    One down, four to go!!!!!
