Could he not be invited to something social afterwards instead? It seems a weird bit of voyeurism to just watch, not even kneel. A person who does that, sticks out like a sore thumb. Perhaps it might help at conversion, but I'd incline towards a way of saying no nicely.

Well duh. But the confirmation must be valid. If the Novus ordo is a different religion and not  catholicism, then you were not confirmed in the Catholic church. No difference between that and being confirmed in the episcopal church. Baptism is different. Anyone can do that.

Archbishop Lefebvre recognized the validity of the Novus Ordo and its sacraments. Even Bishop Williamson has said that it is ok to go to the Novus Ordo mass ( I believe that is when there is no TLM available.)
